Modern Family Season 10 Episode 12 Review: Blasts From the Past

On Modern Family Season 10 Episode 12, there's life in the house again.

The Dunphy house hasn't been brimming with this much action in a long time. Sure, there's been drama here and there, but the constant madness has been part of what's missing.

These twins might just breathe life back into Modern Family. In the Dunphy house, anyway.

Haley Starting to Show - Vertical - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 12

We're still knee-deep in conflict with Jay and Gloria. Why is it that it feels like it's always Gloria and Manny against Jay? I can't be the only one who's put off by that.

It used to be that Gloria was proud of Jay and supported him. Yes, she had an oddly close relationship with Manny that was borderline creepy. But, she still had a loving relationship with Jay.

It just doesn't feel that way anymore.

Now, she's researching with Manny to bring down Jay's family? To what end? What kind of wife does that?

Oh, I so want it to be on purpose. It's lonely out here on Crazy Island.

Claire

An ex-wife -- that's who.

Jay found dirt too, but he kept it to himself for the sake of his son. That's a father. That's a husband and a family man.

All this 'your family heritage vs. my family heritage' is annoying. They're all supposed to be one family.

Claire Meets Dylan's Mom - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 12

It's no secret that Jay isn't exactly open when it comes to Gloria's side of the family. They come from a different culture and a different era, and they just don't mesh well.

He doesn't typically go out of his way to squash their cultural past, though. That's going too far.

Related: Modern Family Season 10 Episode 10 Review: Stuck in a Moment

The whole Manny presence was unnecessary. He's so out of place now. He's the man/boy without a role. I guess they're trying to paint him as a lady's man now? I'm just not buying it.

Then we've got Mitch and Cam with their usual storyline. Come on, we all know how it goes now: Cam hides something from Mitch. Mitch hides something from Cam. One of them catches the other. They fess up. They make up.

We are allowed to look at other men without feeling guilty about it.

Mitch

I've got two words for you -- old news.

And Lily is 11? Is that right? I don't know about you, but if my 11-year-old were looking at nudie mags, I'd have a slightly larger reaction.

At the very least, the talk would have been more substantial than theirs. But of course, the whole thing was just a jumping point which led to a Mitch/Cam deceit scenario.

Dylan - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 12

I don't know how they're still married. I really don't.

Circling back to the Dunphys. The show couldn't have picked a better actress to play Dylan's mother. She's exactly the kind of mother I would imagine Dylan having.

A chill, tree-hugging, sage-smudging, kiss-everybody-on-the-lips Gammy.

They could've done without the whole sexy kitten angle with Phil. It fell flat to me. I usually love everything they do with Phil, and I particularly appreciate when they stick in little tidbits to tie scenes together, but the video thing didn't fly.

Ya' know, my parent's never talked to me about anything sexual. They just sent me to the stables when the horses were breeding and wow did that create some unreasonable expectations.

Cam

In any case, I think madness is what they need in the Dunphy house. With everyone grown and scattered, new kids may be the perfect thing to get the funnies rolling again.

On the other hand, Jay and Gloria had Joe, and that didn't help the funnies in their house one bit. So, it's hard to say.

I do like the feel with hormonal, pregnant Haley and doofy Dylan in the house with Farrah, who could break out the pot brownies at any moment. There's a lot of potential for funny happenings there. And lots of opposing personalities.

Phil and Claire - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 12

I've lost hope that Mitch and Cam will ever be anything but devious to each other. And Jay and Gloria haven't been on the same page in quite a while.

Modern Family needs the Dunphys and their funny madness, or they'll have nothing. A lot is riding on these twins, and I already like the setup.

Is that the way she treats all head injuries? Cause I've got a theory.

Claire

Did Phil and Claire freak out at the prospect of becoming grandparents?

That's what everyone seemed to think on Modern Family Season 10 Episode 12 when they booked a cycling tour through Italy.

Meanwhile, Dylan introduced the family to his mother who had an interesting past.

Also, Cameron and Mitchell were shocked by some reading material they found in Lily's room and set out to find out where she got it from.

On Modern Family Season 10 Episode 13, they shook up the cast a bit, and it seemed to work better than when they pair the characters up all proper-like.

Jay was with Claire, Phil was with Gloria, and Cam was with the Dunphy kids -- plus Manny.

I have to say, Mitch and Cam were tolerable. Hallelujah!

Jay and Claire at Work - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 13

Even though Mitch gave Cam lousy advice, and he took it, at least they were on the same side for once.

No deception, no lies. Oh, happy day. I know this type of behavior between the two of them won't last, so let's just revel in it for a moment. Shall we?

Dad, are you still looking for a place to leave that butt? It's so gross.

Claire

It's not really in Cam's character to tank children's future for his own gain, however.

Also, surprising was how he put his niece and nephew on stage as examples of what not to do.

Not cool.

Photo Shoot with Phil and Gloria - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 13

While it's not great to see Cam that way, the idea behind this episode was, "What's next?" or "Be open to change."

Cam was intrigued by the idea of being the principal, although I'm not sure why. Maybe because he has extra time on his hands now that Cal is gone?

Maybe we should kiss?

Phil

I mean, Lily's only 11, so there's still some raising there to do. Although, she must be going feral by now because we hardly ever see her.

My favorite part of the episode was the Jay and Claire storyline.

While I wasn't buying that Jay is still that inept with technology, maybe he is.

Jay Having Fun - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 13

He's had problems in the past with technology. The double click with Manny, way back in the day?

But I thought part of that was an act. As it turns out, Jay just wasn't accepting of the new age.

You know what? I have to take this. Luke, Haley, talk a little bit about how you still live at home with your parents.

Cam

Now that he's embracing a new way to do things, I think he'll be much happier.

I mean, who wants to photocopy a butt when you can 3D print one?

Again, what's next? Accept change.

Phil, Gloria, and Joe - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 13

I love it when they throw in sweet dad moments where you can see Jay's love for Claire when she was little.

Since we didn't get to see him raising Claire and Mitch, it's nice to see him in daddy mode when he was "younger."

Yeah, I teach a real estate at five. I have to show up early to limber up.

Phil

Of course, he's a dad to Joe now, but not only do we not get to see that too much, but the Jay of today is different. He's older -- way older.

That said, I think we've turned a corner with Jay. At least I hope so.

For a while, he was coming off as unconfident and insecure.

Photo Shoot - Modern Family

But on Modern Family Season 10 Episode 12, Jay made the right fatherly decision to spare Joe by letting him believe in his ancestor's story.

In this episode, Jay realized that he's been stubborn and stuck in the past, and he's willing to evolve.

Go, Jay!

As far as Phil and Gloria go, I wasn't a fan of the whole modeling thing.

Related: Get Great Selection of New & Classic Movies with the Lifetime Movie Club via Prime Video Channels!

What was the point of Gloria tricking Phil? Phil is a chill dude.

She only would've had to ask him to come along. He bends over backward for her.

Which is weird and borderline incestual, but my point is, she didn't need a rouse to get Phil to the mall.

I understand the storyline led to Gloria's admission that she didn't know the next step in her life. But let's stick with the character's personality, please.

Like Mitch, for example, it was completely in his character to "play ball" to get what he wanted at work. This is nothing new for Mitch.

So, when he was making cupcakes for the big case, that totally made sense.

I like their new kitchen, by the way. I know they've had it since the fire, but we got a really good look at it in this episode. Love!

Anyway, we're in season 10, and by this time we know these characters inside and out.

Characters can and should evolve, but when you just throw a monkey wrench in and expect no one to notice -- we notice.

Jay and Claire - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 13

Gloria simply had to bat her eyes and say, "Please, Phil." in her heavy Columbian accent, and his butt would've been at the mall with bells on.

Anyway, I like these shake-up episodes because it gives the audience a different perspective and we don't end up with the same old humdrum stories.

On Modern Family Season 10 Episode 13, the teacher prepared a presentation to get everyone to think about their future goals.

However, he also had to go head-to-head with a bully at the school.

Modern Family Season 10 Episode 14 Review: We Need To Talk About Lily

$

On Modern Family Season 10 Episode 14, I didn't know where they were going with the whole Lily angle.

Was she gay? Trans? Did she want to live with whoever is secretly raising her 85% of the time?

Pepper Toasts Phil - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 14

No. Nothing quite that life-changing.

She doesn't like show tunes or tween stuff or Beyonce -- she loves death metal.

How Mitch and Cam never heard that noise permeating from her headphones, I'll never know, but that's it. No big deal.

No problem. Do you want to look in another neighborhood or stay right here in HELL!

Phil

I have to admit that it's nice to find out something about Lily.

Ever since she was a baby, Mitch and Cam have molded her into what they think she should be.

Dream House - Modern Family

They dressed her up as classic actresses with photo sessions and girly slumber parties, but she's changed now.

That's cool.

And if anyone is going to accept someone who's different from themselves, it's Mitch and Cam.

I'm surprised she didn't feel comfortable coming to them though.

She doesn't sound like that.

Jay

Surely she's heard stories of their early struggles in life. Maybe she's seen their cattiness and thought -- judgment!

But maybe it's just that she didn't want to let them down.

Phil on the Phone - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 14

In any case, I like knowing a little bit more about Lily.

It would be good if she were woven more into the rotation of characters that make up Modern Family.

But the truth is, after this episode, she'll probably fade back into the background, only popping in every now and again to make a smart comment or cause a little trouble.

Honey, you can't get Pepper pregnant and trap him in a house.

Claire

Again, for the second episode in a row, Mitch and Cam were on the same page, acting all like a married couple and stuff.

I'm cautiously optimistic that they will remain this way, but I'm also nervous.

Phil and Pepper Play - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 14

Could it be they've indeed turned a corner? Maybe. We'll see.

Two episodes do not a pattern make, so we need to keep a close eye on them and hope the trend continues.

I like enjoying them again, darn it.

As with all Modern Family episodes, and TV shows in general I presume, we have an undercurrent theme spanning all storylines.

Related: Modern Family Season 10 Episode 13 Review: Whanex?

The theme of acceptance drips over to Pepper who is a massive pain in the butt. But like any pain in the nether regions, there's a reason.

He likes Phil. I mean, I can't blame the guy. Who wouldn't like Phil? He's kind to a fault and just an all-around good egg.

I'm not putting her down, you goblin. She needs the surgery.

Jay

I loved their whole storyline together. We haven't seen Pepper in a while and to pair him with Phil was perfect.

No one else on the show would put up with Pepper's baloney, and Phil lasted as long as he possibly could.

So, they're friends now, and maybe that means we'll see more of Pepper. I hope so because Nathan Lane is always fun to watch on screen.

I was hoping he and Phil would keep going with their number.

But hey, we saw Lane do a little dance and play a little piano tune -- I'm satisfied with that.

For now at least.

Phil and Pepper - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 14

What I'm still not satisfied with is the whole Jay/Gloria situation although it wasn't as bad in this episode.

Why did Gloria have to trick Jay? It's not that he wouldn't get Stella the surgery; he was just nervous about it.

Then Gloria steals the wrong dog?

Related: Get Hallmark Movies Now via Prime Video Channels for Stories with Heart, Captivating Movies & More!

How long have they had Stella? A long time. And I'm not buying the whole Gloria doesn't pay attention to the dog nonsense.

If you remember back to when Stella came on the show, it was Gloria who brought her into the house.

She knows darned well what the dog looks like. It was just an excuse for her to cut down on Jay for not noticing her haircut.

Cheap laugh and ineffective.

Beyond that, Gloria stealing "Stella" from the vet was showing that she loves Jay, so I guess I can't complain.

It's about time she showed some affection toward him.

The last time I remember that happening, he was having his appendix out.

So, it's been a while.

Also nice to see was Bill. We still don't know much about this fireman dude of Alex's, other than he's nice, built, and needs a shave.

It's the end of the line for one of TV's most popular families.

ABC has revealed that Modern Family has been renewed for an eleventh and final season, confirming the rumors that the series will end its run during the 2019-2020 TV season.

Cam Discovers His Card - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 10

The news was revealed at ABC's TCA panel.

While many thought the current tenth season would be the last for the long-running comedy, Deadline recently reported that the adult cast had reached deals with 20th Century Fox TV to stay with the show for one more season

Related: The Good Doctor and A Million Little Things Renewed at ABC

Launching in 2009, Modern Family was an instant hit for ABC and has won 21 Primetime Emmy awards.

Like most long-running series, it has lost steam and buzz as the years have gone by.

Modern Family Season 10 is currently averaging a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49.

Mitch Trying to Garden - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 9

This is down just over 10 percent year-to-year, but it still ranks as ABC's third highest-rated show in the demo.

Related: Modern Family Season 10 Episode 13 Review: Whanex

Modern Family joins The Good Doctor and A Million Little Things which were also renewed during TCA.

There's still no word yet on an exact episode count, but a truncated run might be the best way to end the series.

Modern Family has lacked in the comedy department of late, so it would be great for it to go out with a more focused season.

Phil on the Phone - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 14

For now, Modern Family Season 10 is well underway, and you can catch the family on Wednesdays at 9/8c.

17 Best Running Gags on Television

Some of the best jokes on television are the ones that just won't die. In long-running shows, the funniest and most nostalgic parts simply revisit quips that just won't stop coming.

Related: 13 Similar TV Ships You Should Take for a Sail

The jokes keep building on and on until they become an irreplaceable part of the series that we love and look out for it. In fact, it can even shed light on a show that is otherwise serious and dramatic.

We've created a slideshow below of 17 of our favorite running gags on television!

1. Greenberg - Teen Wolf

Greenberg teen wolf
To this day we still wish we knew who Greenberg was. Instead, he remains the faceless student who always got on Coach Finstock's nerves.

2. Robin vs. Patrice - How I Met Your Mother

Robin vs patrice how i met your mother
The Slap Bet was definitely a funny one, but for us, the Robin and Patrice feud takes the cake. Mostly because it wasn't actually a feud and Robin was basically feuding with herself.

3. Ross' (many) marriages - Friends

Ross many marriages friends
We considered putting, "WE WERE ON A BREAK!" on here but really, that was just more annoying than funny. Instead, we went with Ross' many marriages and engagements and how many times the group liked to make a joke out of it.

4. "Title of your sex tape." - Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Title of your sex tape brooklyn nine nine
Any time Amy makes a remark that could somehow possibly be said during sex, Jake immediately yells "title of your sex tape!" But now that they're a married couple he's altered the phrase slightly to "title of our sex tape!" Is it weird to find that kinda adorable?

5. Cussing - The Good Place

Fork the good place
The inability to cuss in The Good Place has created new unofficial curse words all across social media. Instead of dropping an F-bomb, try saying "What the fork?" instead. It's surprisingly just as satisfying.

6. "How rude!" - Fuller House

How rude fuller house
Stephanie Tanner's famous catchphrase on Full House was always "how rude!" She may no longer be a kid in the reboot, but she really hasn't changed a bit.

Television characters are no strangers to heartbreak. They too experience getting dumped and being betrayed.

If a tv character is lucky, he or she will still have loved ones around to support them during these rough patches.

These characters could not have prevented the pain from happening. However, they will listen sympathetically while you vent and wallow. They will travel across the country to answer your distress call. And when they vow that the person who hurt you will never harm you again, you know they will keep their promise.

For all this and more, we wish we could have these tv characters present in our lives during all the times we are convinced we will never be happy again.

1. Olivia - Law & Order: SVU

Olivia sees the ugliest side of humanity on a regular basis, but she never forgets to the put the victims first. Always compassionate and a force to be reckoned with, she'll do everything in her power to ensure justice is served.

2. Miguel - This Is Us

Miguel this is us
It's good to see more appreciation for Miguel because a guy who would fix your fridge, console you after a date gone bad, and let you sleep off a drunken bender at his place certainly deserves it.

3. Lorelai - Gilmore Girls

Lorelai gilmore gilmore girls
If you've embarrassed yourself in front of a crush, been dumped during a dance marathon, or just found out your mother-in-law never wanted you in the family -- Lorelai Gilmore will always be there for you with a hug, some kind (and funny) words, and all the junk food you need to get through the wallowing.

4. Gary - A Million Little Things

Gary a million little things
Don't let the abrasive side of Gary's personality fool you, he'll do anything to cheer you up when you're going through a tough time. The list includes but is not limited to staying at your side during chemo, immediately making sure someone can step in when dad duty calls and wearing a light-up Christmas sweater.

5. Mina - The Resident

Mina the resident
Mina will always tell you what you need to hear even when you don't want to hear it. Even when she thinks doing something like jilting someone at the altar was a bad decision, she will still offer you a place to stay when you have nowhere else to go.

6. Davos - Game of Thrones

Davos game of thrones
Davos is an awesome person to have around after you've been stabbed in the heart. He'll find a red priestess to handle the resurrection and then give you a pep talk that will enable you to get on with the business of saving the world.

13 of TV's "Dumbest" Characters Who were Smarter than They Seemed

$
0

Making a character appear completely stupid has been a way that television tries to elicit humor for decades.

Others characters often look down upon them, and you'll catch them rolling their eyes or shooting condescending glares their way.

While sometimes the characters aren't as educated as the rest of their friends, it's often played up far too much for laughs and the things they are actually good at get brushed past or ignored.

Related: 13 Love Stories We're Glad Weren't Told

In fact, some of these characters are actually smarter than the people making fun of them.

Check out 13 of TV's "Dumbest" characters who were smarter than they seemed!

1. Jason Mendoza - The Good Place

Jason mendoza the good place
We can't argue that Jason can be a little weird sometimes, but that really doesn't make him as unintelligent as people think. Are we forgetting that once Jason even figured out they were in the bad place?

2. Brittany Pierce - Glee

Brittany pierce glee
The show tried to portray Brittany as dumb as rocks. And yes she didn't have a whole lot of common sense. But do any of us? Brittany was the kindest and most understanding person and she really didn't care what others thought of her. Her singing and dancing abilities were incredible, and we also have to mention the time she turned out to be a math genius.

3. John LaMarr - The Orville

John lamarr the orville
LaMarr was originally presented as a goofy character out to have a good time, but he turned out to be much more than he seemed. LaMarr scored incredibly high in aptitude tests and was promoted to Chief Engineer.

4. Maya Hart - Girl Meets World

Cat valentine victorious
Maya was supposed to be the "stupid" best friend of the lead when she was actually the most intelligent character on the entire show. She knew how to handle sticky situations, could always think the most rationally when others couldn't, and even got an A on a test simply because she decided to put in the effort.

5. Kimmy Gibler - Fuller House

Kimmy gilber fuller house
Kimmy was always the dumb, annoying friend on Full House and its reboot. But she has since proven what an out-of-the-box thinker she is. Even her party planning business does quite well and the show has even shown how difficult it is for other characters to run it successfully.

6. Summer Roberts - The O.C.

Summer roberts the oc
She may have been seen as a ditzy and shallow character but Summer was much more. Her SAT scores were through the roof and she was even accepted into Brown.

Nothing, not even demons are keeping these two apart. We're not even a little bit worried that Magnus and Alec will break up. Their love is unconditional and all they want is to spend their life together. With Shadowhunters coming to an end, we've got our fingers crossed for a wedding in the future.

6. Nomi and Amanita - Sense8

Nomi and amanita sense8
Nothing can scare Amanita away from Nomi, not even the fact that Nomi is literally connected to a group of random people. We also can't get over the fact that they both proposed to each other at the same time. It doesn't get any cuter.

Ships exist in all kinds of genres. Dramas, thrillers, and of course comedies.

Relationships on sitcoms can be a bit lighter than those on high stakes dramas, but that doesn't mean they can't be just as wonderful.

Sitcoms provide an opportunity for the characters to have fun with each other, and the audience experiences it in return. They provide a great escape for those days when you just need to smile.

We've created a slideshow below of 33 of the greatest ships from sitcoms!

1. Cory and Topanga - Boy Meets World

Cory and topanga boy meets world
Cory and Topanga were the classic ship for anyone who grew up in the early 90s. Fans of the show were in luck when Disney created a spinoff that featured Cory and Topanga happily married with their two kids.

2. Lucy and Ricky - I Love Lucy

Lucy and ricky i love lucy
Lucky and Ricky were probably the purest couple of their time. Ricky dealing with Lucy's shenanigans was always hilarious to watch, and there was no doubt how much they loved each other.

3. Jim and Pam - The Office

Jim and pam the office
Jim and Pam are probably one of America's favorite couples to date. Since Pam was engaged at the beginning of the show, it took them a while to finally get together, but we couldn't be happier that they did.

4. Sabrina and Harvey - Sabrina the Teenage Witch

Sabrina and harvey sabrina the teenage witch
Sabrina always belonged with Harvey and it was obvious. It's not easy being a teenage witch, but it didn't scare Harvey away from the girl that he loved.

5. Nick and Jess - New Girl

Nick and jess new girl
Jess started off as Nick's new quirky roommate, but he even admitted that he fell in love with her the moment she walked through the door. Nick and Jess were always there for each other and even became best friends. Ending the series with a wedding between them was the perfect way to say goodbye.

6. Rob and Laura Petrie - The Dick Van Dyke Show

Despite having a house full of kids, Rob and Laura were the most entertaining and comedic part of the series. It was hard not to have fun just watching them together.

If the answer's no then we need to change our fate. If we want to have the spring break experience we always see on tv, then let's watch how our favorite characters make it happen.

We will find out the answers to the really important questions: east or west, by plane or by car, and just how many bathing suits do we actually need?

As for anyone who thinks only college students get to have all the fun, think again. These episodes feature plenty of characters who will prove it's never too late to dive right into the action.

1. "The Return of the Nana," The OC Season 2 Episode 21

The return of the nana season 2 episode 21 the oc
Spring break is all about getting wild and crazy, but before you take the plunge, remember it's a lot harder these days to keep any shameful, embarrassing behavior under wraps. Seth found that out the hard way when Summer saw his whipped cream eating escapades on TV.

2. "The One With Joey's Fridge," Friends Season 6 Episode 19

Don't be Ross, don't be the person who is so insecure about a relationship you stalk your way into your significant other's vacation plans.

3. "We're Going to the Catskills!" The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 Episode 4

Packing is serious business. It's better to have an extra bathing suit than not have it, and yes, bring all four picnic outfits. There could be four picnics. If your concerned about not having enough space for all your luggage, building models of your suitcases helps.

4. "In The Air Tonight," Grey's Anatomy Season 13 Episode 20

Airplane travel doesn't bring out the best in anyone, but it's no excuse for jerkish behavior. Do yourself and everyone a favor: treat the crew nicely and don't drag innocent bystanders into your relationship spats.

5. "The Ballad of Donkey Doug," The Good Place Season 3 Episode 5

Florida is a popular spring break destination. You can hit the beaches of Ft. Lauderdale, go clubbing in Miami, or have a thrilling time at any one of Orlando's theme parks. Whatever you do -- as The Good Place constantly warns us -- stay away from Jacksonville!

6. "Home," Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 1

Home season 2 episode 1 ash vs evil dead
For those who love to vacation in Jacksonville, Ash vs Evil Dead takes the opposite view of The Good Place and thinks the place is paradise on Earth. The more important takeaway from "Home" though is try to resolve any drama before leaving for vacation because your personal demons tend to follow wherever you may go.

It makes us feel good to see two people who obviously should be together, finally get together.

We all know what we see on TV is mostly a fantasy, but are we going too far when we make those couples our #relationshipgoals?

Couples who survive every disaster known to mankind or who are mismatched in every way may be fun to watch, but they're completely unrealistic.

These epic love stories just don't exist in the real world.

Here are 13 couples whose love is nothing more than a fantasy.

Who would you add to this list?

Hit the comments and share your picks!

1. Claire and Jaime - Outlander

Claire and jaime outlander
Claire and Jaime may be one of the most celebrated couples of all time, but we call no dice. Forget about the time travel and age difference, a guy like Jaime would only be able to take so much of a woman like Claire before he'd either walk away or find someone who wasn't. well, such a bitch. Besides, how many long-term couples do you know who are still riding the highs of the honeymoon phase? Their neverending loveydoveyness just doesn't exist in the real world which is why this love story is too good to be true.

2. Derek and Meredith - Grey's Anatomy

Derek and meredith greys anatomy
Drama, drama, and more drama. Sure, there are people in the world who can't stay away from each other because their love is too deep, and it's true that some will tear apart their lives to be with a person they shouldn't be with. But Derek and Meredith's love story was just too complicated and messed up to ever survive in the real world. No real couple could live happily ever after like that (at least until Derek died) no matter what the TV world says.

3. Dr. Finn and Isaac - The Orville

Dr finn and isaac the orville
A smart, independent woman like Dr. Finn would never choose a guy as dense and unfeeling as Isaac. He's just too much work. Add in the fact that he's basically a robot, and there you go. It would never happen. Ever.

4. Jack and Rebecca - This is Us

Jack and rebecca this is us
We love Jack and Rebecca. We really do, but here's another case of a nice guy ending up with someone who doesn't deserve him. Rebecca is mean and selfish and the way she treated Jack at times was absolutely abhorrent. He may have been head over heels, but he would have come to his senses eventually if he hadn't died. In the real world, this love story would have ended in divorce.

5. Lois and Peter - Family Guy

Lois and peter family guy
She's smart and rich. He's a fat slob with a dead-end job. In the real world, Lois would have tired of Peter and his idiotic ways and sought out someone more engaging and who could support the kind of lifestyle she was used to while growing up. Peter might have provided Lois with a bit of excitement, but marriage and three kids would never have happened.

6. Laura and Shadow Moon - American Gods

Laura and shadow moon american gods
She cheated on him with his best friend while he was still in prison. It hurt like hell when Shadow found out what Laura did, but he couldn't stop loving her even though she was a ghost, and he can't stay away from her. In the real world, he would have spit on her grave and told her ghost to go to hell. Some things can never be forgiven and being with a woman who slept with your best friend is one of them.
