15 TV Families You Wish Were Yours

The family bond on television is one dynamic that keeps fans coming back each week and each season. Whether the family is full of laughs or stabbing each other in the back, it is one of the core reason fans tune in.

On some TV shows the family dynamic leaves such an impression on viewers that they literally wish they were a part of this fictional family.

There is a feeling of inclusion each time certain families are on the TV screen, and it is time to honor them.

The list could be endless. There are so many TV families over the years that have made us want to be part of them. However, for our list, we have included families that have most recently been a part of our TV lives. There is one or two throwback's that made the list because those families deserve a proper shout-out.

1. The Walkers – Brothers & Sisters

The walkers brothers and sisters
Those Walker siblings, Kitty, Sarah, Tommy, Kevin, and Justin, knew how to bring the drama. They yelled, screamed, cried and fought with each other, as well as for each other. Their natural sibling banter, especially in the episodes where all the Walkers were together was priceless. Plus, their gatherings always included wine. They drank a lot of wine on that show which is another reason they are a fan-favorite family.

2. The Pearsons – This Is Us

The pearsons this is us
Does there really need to be an explanation for the Pearson family? The best part of this family is that at all ages there is chaos, fighting, resentment, laugher, and a lot of tears. Whether the big three are grown adults, teenagers, or 10-year-olds, their connection is unbreakable. It is a sibling bond fans cherish. Plus, Jack is their dad, and Rebecca is their mom. They're the perfect imperfect parents. Who wouldn't want to be part of the Pearson clan?

3. The Bravermans – Parenthood

The bravermans parenthood
Being a Braverman wasn't always easy, but man, it would be great to have Adam, Sarah, Julia, and Crosby as siblings. Parents, Zeek and Camille, doled out the best advice even when it was not wanted. Their backyard was the place for family gatherings, full of laughter, tears, announcements, and a lot of shouting. Even at the worst of times, this family bond is unbreakable, and that is precious. Plus, they have the best dance parties!

4. The Adams-Fosters – The Fosters

The adams fosters the fosters
The Adams-Fosters are the most unconventional family made up of biological, adopted and foster kids, but they proved blood doesn't matter. You only need love to make a family. Moms Steph and Lena ran a tight but lenient ship. They let their kids be themselves without judgment and were always welcoming, even in the toughest of times, which included birth parents, brain trauma, death, forbidden love, and of course, teenage sex.

5. The Barones – Everybody Loves Raymond

The barones everybody loves raymond
The Barone family dynamic is crazy, funny, intrusive, and most of all loving. They yell, don't listen, and resent each other. But they also have each other's backs. Ray and his family are not like the others on this list. They represent real-life family craziness. However, it is the humor of this family that makes viewers want to be a part of them. In the toughest of situations, humor is critical. The Barones are all about the humor, even at the most inappropriate times, and that is pretty cool.

6. The Walshes- Beverly Hills 90210

The walshes beverly hills 90210
The midwestern Walsh family was a fish out of water in Beverly Hills. Even as they adapted to their new surroundings, Jim and Cindy made sure their twins, Brandon and Brenda, never lost their core family values. The Walshes became the family many of the Beverly Hills kids needed. Everyone was family at the Walsh house, even Dylan. The welcoming attitude and unconditional love are what makes their family dynamic so special.

Modern Family Season 10 Episode 3 Review: A Sketchy Area

$

On Modern Family Season 10 Episode 3, the theme is the future and how it can be unexpected. Except for Mitch and Cam who were their usual superficial selves.

Does it seem to anyone else that whatever child is put in their care disappears? They were raising Pam's child while she was in prison on Modern Family Season 10 Episode 1. Now he's gone.

An Unflattering Sketch - Modern Family

The same thing happened to Lily during most of Modern Family Season 9.

What are they doing with the children?

I'm starting to think Modern Family might not see them as parenting material. Or maybe it's the fans who don't see them that way. Either way, their children go missing.

Ok, so what does real estate equal? Eighty percent contact.

Phil

Please stop giving Mitch and Cam kids. The little guys step into the void that is the Tucker/Pritchett household, and they rarely return.

Aside from the eerily missing children, Mitch and Cam's story was weak. They're reaching trying to find something to do with these two, and the courtroom drama wasn't it.

Related: Enjoy UNLIMITED access to thousands of Movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video. WATCH ANYWHERE. CANCEL ANYTIME!

I know they're a snarky couple, but it doesn't make sense for Mitch and Cam to go through their renter's space. They have invaded a renter's space before, but it was because they were suspicious of them.

Mitch in the Courtroom - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 2

This guy was just a run of the mill renter guy. They're not going to enter his rented space and eat his basket of goodies.

The whole point of the courtroom was to give them something to do. Maybe the writers were trying to tie Cam's sleuth skills into another career possibility. That's the only way it would fit into where they were going in this episode.

It just didn't fit, and it didn't work.

Alex is going to be a very nervous man.

Gloria

The most interesting pull away from all the storylines is that things change, and that's okay.

Phil, being the incredible dad he is, was helping Luke practice to make the rugby team. His curiosity led him into the Real Estate classroom, and he was an instant hit in the class. Of course, he was. Nobody is as enthusiastic about real estate as Phil.

Cam Going Overboard - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 2

It made sense that Luke wanted his own space, but I'm glad he came to his senses. Luke was incredibly selfish for most of the episode, but change happens, and it's okay.

Sometimes change is good.

Related: Modern Family Season 10 Episode 2 Review: Kiss and Tell

Sometimes change has to be re-thought like the craziness at Jay and Claire's closet company. The merger was good for the company, but there was no structure, and it wasn't working in the new age way they wanted.

They needed Jay to pull them back a little and kick them in the butt. The same way he did for Alex.

Counselor, you're speaking weirdly.

Judge

So, she was going to consider giving up a science career for singing? There's nothing wrong with singing, but there is such a thing as doing both. The story Jay told Alex about himself was one of those grandfather/granddaughter moments we rarely see on Modern Family.

Each time Jay has one of these heart to hearts, it seems to be with Alex. They have a special bond.

He once told her she was going to have to run the family one day because he wouldn't always be around and she was the only one who could do it.

Hey, it can't all be funny.

Cameron in the Courtroom - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 2

Those sweet moments between family members are what makes Modern Family great. It's one thing that keeps fans watching.

The other thing about the show that keeps fans coming back is the one-liners. That's where Modern Family has lacked lately, and this episode was no different.

Even Phil didn't get a great funny line, and that's saying something. Phil always gets the line!

Related: Get Great Selection of New & Classic Movies with the Lifetime Movie Club via Prime Video Channels!

Not this time.

It's not that he wasn't funny. He was. Phil is always amusing. His demeanor mixed with his innocent sweetness can make anyone laugh, but all that funny is usually topped off with at least a good line.

Instead, the funny antics were predictable, which sucked the funny right out of them.

It was a pretty simple case because as I said, everyone has something to hide. Everyone. ... Everyone.

Cam

The current problems with Modern Family:

  • Mitch and Cam are too superficial.
  • Mitch and Cam keep suspiciously losing children.
  • The one-liners are nearly absent.
  • Give Luke a more prominent personality.
  • Alex lacks good storylines.

Keep the sweet, touching moments, add in seamless one-liners, and bring the family back to Mitch and Cam, and you're on your way to bringing back the magic. Keep on this story path and Modern Family won't last another season.

What do you think, Modern Family fans? Has Modern Family lost its mojo? What do you think will give Modern Family its groove back? Do you enjoy the sweet family moments as much as I do?

Did Phil make a mistake?

That was addressed on Modern Family Season 10 Episode 3 when he stumbled on to a new career when he stopped by Luke's college.

Meanwhile, Claire was forced to try and do something about her father when it emerged that he needed more care than she was willing to give.

Also, Mitch's new high-profile case as an assistant district attorney was derailed by an unflattering sketch by the artist who was tasked with, well, drawing.

Modern Family Season 10 Episode 4 Review: Torn Between Two Lovers

Love is in the air on Modern Family Season 10 Episode 4, and Haley is dead center. I'm glad they didn't drag out the whole love triangle for too long because that could've gotten old.

The way the whole thing played out was probably no surprise to any longtime fans of the show, as Haley chose Dylan in the end.

Good.

Making a Decision - Modern Family

Arvin was no match for Haley. He was nice enough, sure, but Haley never would've been happy with him. As Arvin realized in the end, he never would've been happy with Haley either.

It's okay to be in a relationship and be different. You don't want a carbon copy of yourself, but you don't want the differences to be so vast that the common ground is nil, either.

Arvin's a sweet, brilliant guy, and he would be a great match for Alex. It's too bad Haley ruined that possibility.

Sister code and all.

Phil: She's ghosting you?
Dylan: For an older dude, you always kept up with the lingo. Phil: Word.

  • Permalink: Word.
  • Added:

Alex is probably going to be annoyed when she finds out Haley tossed Arvin aside. Oh well, she's got a hot fireman, so what does she have to complain about?

Dylan was the better choice for Haley. Her description of their life together was by far happier and more fulfilling than her life with Arvin.

Haley made an excellent choice by suggesting stepping back and dating.

Phil Tackles Dylan - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 4

It was a testament to her growing maturity. She can have a grown-up relationship with Dylan. They've both matured and changed since they've been apart, but they haven't changed their affection for each other.

I hope they work out because seeing Haley on the scooter with heart-engulfed Dylan waddling at her side reminded me of what Phil and Claire might have been like at their age.

And they're happy.

Phil and Claire might have their issues (which are all Claire's fault), but there's no doubt they love each other.

Haley: Mom!
Claire: What? I do this every day at 3.

Haley deserves that too. Everyone does.

Even though Claire has historically been anti-Dylan, she understood Haley's explanation.

How could she argue against her daughter's happiness? She can't. I hope this is the end of Claire's stance on Dylan, and she's supportive going forward. It would suck if Claire continued to rag on Dylan as she has in the past.

Phil Talks to Haley - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 4

Let's hope she'll keep herself under control and support Haley's decision.

Skipping over to Mitch and Cam, it's funny their storyline centered around children since their children are missing in most of the storylines.

Related: Modern Family Season 10 Episode 3 Review: A Sketchy Area

I've mentioned in the past how their children seem to be missing from their lives mysteriously. They aren't kid-centered at all.

True to form, the couple was on a mission of deception. Only this time their target wasn't each other, it was an outside party for a change.

Arvin: So, this is the doll you slept with.
Dylan: Hey, you're pretty handsome yourself.

Mitch was using Cal and Lily plain and simple. Ick.

Here's an idea, Mitch: Ask.

It's revolutionary! You prove yourself in your job, you ask for the big gets, and you receive an answer. You don't use your kids to weasel your way into the second chair.

Come on.

It would've been one thing if the bit was funny, but it wasn't. The skit was a tired storyline in another house.

Haley Talks to Arvin - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 4

Mitch and Cam using their kids to suck up to people to get what they want is nothing new. When I suggested they have more family time and their kids should come out of hiding, that wasn't what I had in mind.

The whole time they were at the other attorney's house, they complained about not having nice things. They were in awe of the possessions and the cleanliness of the other guys.

Related: Get Great Selection of New & Classic Movies with the Lifetime Movie Club via Prime Video Channels!

Mitch and Cam had to ask themselves if they regretted having children. The Mitch and Cam of the last couple of seasons have been full of regret.

They might say they wouldn't change a thing, but I don't buy it for a second.

What's your game, old man?

Gloria

There were a few moments they had with Lily, but most of them were when she was a baby and a toddler. Since then, they've been all deception, lies, and shallowness.

Maybe they'll use this episode as a turning point for the pair and steer them back toward family, but I doubt it.

Time will tell.

What did you think, Modern Family fans? Are Mitch and Cam's storylines old and tired? Are you happy with Haley's choice? Do you think Phil had the funniest lines -- again?

Who did Haley choose to be with?

That was addressed on Modern Family Season 10 Episode 4 when she was conflicted about whether to choose her past relationship or the new one that she created while her boyfriend was gone.

Meanwhile. Manny returned to college and dorm life but struggled when his girlfriend was still staying at his home with his parents.

Modern Family Season 10 Episode 5 Review: Good Grief

$

On Modern Family Season 10 Episode 5, a family member dies, and each family member has their way of dealing with the loss.

For as long as I can remember, Halloween has been Claire's favorite holiday. She goes over and above on costumes and decor with her sole purpose to scare the pants off of everyone.

It's the one night she's not serious and uptight. The one night for her to let loose, have fun and thrive.

An Epic Halloween - Modern Family

So, what happens? They kill her mother.

Halloween, of all nights.

The timing choice coupled with the fact that Claire was always at odds with Dede makes the impact even worse.

Related: Enjoy UNLIMITED access to thousands of Movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video. WATCH ANYWHERE. CANCEL ANYTIME!

It makes sense Claire would feel guilt over the loss of her mother. Who wouldn't? When someone dies, you begin to think of all the woulda, coulda, shouldas. You analyze every interaction, wondering what you could've done differently or what you did wrong in your relationship.

I am totally confused about what we're supposed to do.

Phil

I like the way the writers took Claire through that process.

Here she was talking to her brother who had a great relationship with Dede. Mitch was going on and on about the good times between him and their mother, and you could tell by the look on her face that he was making her feel bad.

It wasn't Mitchell's fault. He had a better relationship with Dede. Plain and simple. Claire did have an interesting point when she told Mitchel this:

Mitchell! Just because mom is dead doesn't mean she was a saint!

Claire

Lots of people do that. Someone dies and all of the sudden they were terrific and perfect when they were alive. We're told not to speak ill of the dead, but should we lie about them?

Not that Mitchell was lying, but Dede did have her faults. Everyone does. To pretend they don't after they die takes away who they were. It takes away what makes them human and it's wrong.

Related: Modern Family Season 10 Episode 4 Review: Torn Between Two Lovers

If you step back and look at the whole episode, it authentically dealt with death.

Claire Gets Bad News - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 5

Every person dealt with their grief differently, as in real life.

When I heard a significant character was dying on Modern Family this season, I knew it had to be Dede. If they were going to address death, she was the only character they could've killed off and still made it a comedic half hour.

Why?

I know this is going to sound crazy, but I have always worried that when DeDe died she was going to come back and haunt me. Maybe it's because she whispered it to me at my wedding.

Gloria

Dede wasn't a main character, so the impact wouldn't be devastating or change the dynamic of the show.

Also, Dede was a kook. They used her oddness to eek out funny moments and memories in the episode, like the explanation letter Phil read at the end.

The letter included weird things her character would've done.

When Phil and Cam were in West Hollywood eating ice cream, they were sharing stories about Dede. Both of their stories were heartwarming in their own way and listening to them you were nodding your head saying, "Yup, that's totally Dede."

Phil Talks on the Couch - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 5

What a surprise that Lily was the one who honored her the most. Dede absolutely would've wanted someone to mess with Gloria after her death. Somebody had to do it. It was a perfect way for Lily to pay tribute to Dede.

The episode was full of real and different reactions to death. Of course, the grieving process has just begun. Not that I want them to dwell and drag it out, but I would like to see Dede's death have an impact beyond this half hour.

Related: Get Great Selection of New & Classic Movies with the Lifetime Movie Club via Prime Video Channels!

Finally -- a Modern Family episode where everyone came together. That hasn't happened in quite a while.

Phil: On the trip's final morning, Dede was found in her room. She had apparently passed peacefully in her sleep, as a smile graced her face and her hands clutched ten pages of suggestions for the hotel staff.
Claire: That is so mom.
Mitch: Easy.

  • Permalink: Easy.
  • Added:

The most surprising reaction came from Jay, which shouldn't have surprised me at all.

We all know Jay is tough on the outside and soft on the inside, but I don't think even he realized how much Dede meant to him.

It makes sense though. Jay and Dede raised a family together as a married couple for a long time.

Mitch Receives Upsetting News - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 5

Regardless of the problems that led to the end of their marriage, they remained friends. There was no animosity between the two, and in recent years they became even closer.

Dede and Jay both reached a point in their lives where the past didn't matter. With age comes wisdom and life is short.

Maybe Dede was a more significant character on the show than anyone realized.

Including me.

I am going to miss Shelley Long on the show. Are you?

What do you think, Modern Family fanatics? Were you right on your guess about who was going to die? What did you think about the family's reactions to Dede's death? Do you have any Dede memories to share?

19 Surprising TV Actors Who Also Direct

$

Lots of actors are satisfied with perfecting their craft in front of the camera. They shine in the spotlight. But sometimes they're inspired to play a different role in TV, and that's the role of director. These actors have ideas and a vision of what they would like to see in a show.

Most times they're directing the show they act in.

Related: Get Comic Con HQ via Prime Video Channels to Stream Original Series, Past Comic-Con Panels & More!

These actors know the show so well that they want to expand their creative wings and make their visions come to life from behind the screen. Typically acting as they direct, these talents move flawlessly between roles, often enhancing their acting ability.

Experiencing a TV show from a different perspective is a challenge. One that a lot of actors aspire to achieve. Have any of your favorite actors also directed the very shows you enjoy? Chances are they might have. Read on to find out if your favorites have made the leap.

1. Matthew Gray Gubler - Criminal Minds

Matthew grey gubler criminal minds
It should come as no surprise that the talent who plays Dr. Spencer Reid on Criminal Minds has 11 directing credits from the show. Gubler has also directed several short films and is a writer, producer, and artist. That's a whole lot of talent wrapped up in our favorite brainiac.

2. Chandra Wilson - Grey's Anatomy

Chandra wilson greys anatomy
Chandra Wilson plays the five-foot-nothing no-nonsense heart of gold surgeon Dr. Miranda Bailey on Grey's Anatomy. While playing the role, she's also directed a whopping 19 episodes for the series. Although Grey's is the only show she both acts and directs in, she's also directed episodes for The Fosters and Scandal.

3. Mariska Hargitay - Law & Order: SVU

Mariska hargitay law and order svu
Mariska has played the role of Olivia Benson on Law & Order: SVU since day one, but in recent years she's also stepped behind the camera. Since 2014, she's directed six episodes for the series and will probably continue in both roles until the end of the long-running series.

4. Hugh Laurie - House

Hugh laurie house
We know Hugh Laurie as House on the medical drama of the same name. Did you know he also directed a couple of episodes? We have to wonder if acting with an American accent while directing without tripped up the actor on set. It's funny to imagine House with a British accent.

5. Jennifer Garner - Alias

Jennifer garner alias
Jennifer Garner played Sydney Bristow, a kickass international spy for the five season series. A year before the end of the series, Garner tried her hand at directing. She directed one episode for the series and hadn't tried it again since, but that doesn't mean she won't.

6. Courteney Cox - Cougar Town

Courteney cox cougar town
Courteney Cox is probably most widely recognized as the anal retentive Monica Gellar on Friends. She has a boatload of other acting credits to her name and some directing ones too. When Cox was playing her role on Cougar Town, she also directed twelve episodes for the series.

Modern Family Season 10 Episode 6 Review: On the Same Paige

$

On Modern Family Season 10 Episode 6, Phil's on a mission to save his class. When he turns on the charm, he dials it up too far, attracting some young attention.

It appears that Phil misunderstands Paige's attention. She's Luke's girlfriend!!

Or maybe Phil doesn't misunderstand at all. What's going on with Paige?

Father's Follies - Modern Family

"On the Same Paige" revolves around misunderstandings.

It wasn't surprising to find out that Luke's girlfriend was using him to get to Phil. It WAS surprising that Luke wasn't upset.

When Paige threw herself at Phil, Luke didn't seem all that surprised. He didn't seem to care at all.

Related: Get PBS Masterpiece via Prime Video Channels for World-Class British Dramas & Award-Winning Series

You'd think he would be disconcerted about a person using him like that, but the kid took it in stride.

Luke's reaction didn't seem authentic. Anyone who's gotten used by another person knows how it feels. Even in a comedy Luke's response to his girlfriend jumping into Phil's arms was disconnected.

Should we be concerned about group-molesting Serge?

Claire

The other misunderstanding regarding Jay and Laura from the parent group was weak.

It's okay that he has a friend, but if she was only a friend, why would Jay wear a snazzy shirt to make his eyes pop and do pushups in the parking lot to pump up his muscles?

At the Follies - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 6

Would Jay be acting that way if his "parent pal" were named Larry instead of Laura?

I don't think so.

Now, again, there's nothing wrong with Jay having a friend of the opposite sex. But for Jay to say it was completely innocent is a little bit of bull.

After all his years with Gloria, he should know she has eyes like a hawk and nothing ever gets past her.

Then there was the bit with Joe and the lazy eye. That didn't tickle my funny bone at all.

Laura: Did you pre-heat my oven?
Jay: Not on purpose.

I suppose that part of the story was inserted to give Gloria a stink-eye target so that Jay could act all nervous.

It didn't flow well nor did it add any comedic breadth to the whole shtick. It was disappointing.

Related: Modern Family Season 10 Episode 5 Review: Good Grief

They could get up to a lot of fun shenanigans with Joe, but they're not putting any effort into utilizing his character. He's becoming a little too big for his britches, and most of his lines don't come off as funny.

They're taking little Joe along the same road as they did with Lily, but they're doing it even earlier. With all of the kids on Modern Family already and all of the different types of children in the world, this writing team can't come up with something new?

Fathers' Follies Announcer - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 6

Lily was this sweet and funny little girl, but when she got older, they gave her a snarky personality. They're doing the same with Joe, only this time, they're killing the cute way too early.

He's not a teen yet. Let him be a cute and funny kid. Would a cute and funny teen be too much to ask if the show dared to stay on the air that long?

At the Fathers' Follies, it was nice that Mitchell came out of his Pritchett shell and let loose. He's way too uptight.

But, again, the bit at the follies was predictable.

As soon as they set the stage for the little girl's tribute, you knew bee-Mitchell would fly over and wreck the whole thing.

Maybe spend a little less time with your nose in that psych book and a little more time being sexy.

Phil

I think what they were going for there was a nod to an I Love Lucy episode. Maybe? But it didn't fly. (No bee-pun intended -- OK. Maybe it was intended. If they can use old material again and again, why can't I?)

Where's the originality that makes Modern Family so funny?

Related: Enjoy UNLIMITED access to thousands of Movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video. WATCH ANYWHERE. CANCEL ANYTIME!

Once you can see what's going to happen on a comedy before it happens, the magic is gone. The funny loses its zing when it's predictable.

It wasn't always this way on Modern Family, and if South Park, Family Guy, and The Simpsons can still be funny on the air long after Modern Family will go off the air, we know it can be done.

Still, there are still one-liners in the show that make me giggle. Unfortunately, they're becoming a rarity.

Mitch and Cam in Fathers' Follies - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 6

They usually involve Phil's character. Sometimes Jay will have a laugh-out-loud line or Haley will let one fly, but the rest of them hardly ever get a zany and solid line to throw at the crowd.

They're great actors, but the storylines in Modern Family have become overall dull and expected. That doesn't allow any time for these fabulous actors to shine.

Maybe the show has had its run. Maybe Modern Family just doesn't work anymore now that the family dynamics have changed.

You're missing out on life, Mitchell. Take off your shackles and show people who you really are.

Cam

I was hoping they were going to use Modern Family Season 10 to get their groove back. I was looking forward to a new tone to the family and believed that it would work.

But it's not as fun as it once was to sit in front of the TV anymore, and I'm afraid if they can't figure out that sweet spot and knock it out of the park, Modern Family is doomed.

What do you think, Modern Family fanatics? Am I too hard on Modern Family? Does anyone else know where the heck we can find Stella? Does anyone hold out any hope for future seasons?

Haley on the bumper cars - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 7

It's unclear how much time has passed since Haley and Arvin broke up. Maybe a couple of months.

We went from the 4th of July to Halloween to the current day, but we haven't hit Thanksgiving yet, so, yeah, a few months.

Haley is pregnant, and although I'm sure she and Dylan have been doing it like bunnies, I hope we're not in for a game of "Who's the Daddy?"!

I love it that you're smart now.

Phil

Let's think about that for a minute. Okay, Arvin was gone for a while, and Claire brought him back to surprise Haley.

Dylan was in the house in his heart suit at the time, so there's no way Haley and Arvin got busy.

The baby is definitely Dylan's.

Good.

Phil Gives Alex a Hug - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 7

Let's digest that for a minute. Claire has always been worried that Dylan and Haley would start a family too early. She warned Haley about trapping herself and tying herself to a family too early.

I wonder how she'll handle the news.

Dylan and Haley are young, but they're not kids anymore, and they both have careers going.

It's too soon after their reconciliation to throw a baby in the mix, but there it is.

Luke: Thank you, Alexandra. It's not easy being the smart ones in this family.
Alex: Don't compare us! Your last English paper came back with a Garfield sticker on it that said, "Way to Go!"

They're going down Phil and Claire Road. Hey, it turned out great for them, so who knows? Dylan will probably propose to Haley, and they'll get married before the baby is born.

Where are they going to live, though? In the Dunphy basement?

Meanwhile, Alex hasn't acted all high and mighty for a while, but she brought herself down a smidge. Thank God.

The Family Chicken - Modern Family

Everybody has their thing. Who is Alex to judge? SHE has a thing! She's a smug know-it-all who likes to put people down.

I like Alex, don't get me wrong, but all that judgment was uncool. Yes, it was Luke who labeled everyone. I thought it was funny coming from him because he was spot on, but Alex jumped right on board.

She eventually realized that her family, with all its quirks, contributed significantly to who she is today.

Maybe she'll tone down the attitude a little bit. She's always going to have that air about her because she's Alex, but she doesn't need to label and judge.

Don't Bugs Bunny me.

Gloria

Accept your family for who they are, unless they're jerks.

The Dunphys aren't jerks. They're good people, a lot of fun, and they make the most of even the worst moments in life. It's all good.

When I saw Mitchell with the chicken on Twitter, I thought I would enjoy the Mitch/Cam storyline.

Cullen McCarthy and Ed O'Neil - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 7

Although the chicken was adorable, the story was the same old thang.

Mitch and Cam hid the truth from each other and fessed up at the end.

Seriously? Can't we do better than that with these two?

Yes, we can.

Give Mitch and Cam a storyline where they're not deceiving someone else or each other.

Puh-lease. I dare you.

You got rid of Henifer!

Mitch

I loved Mitchell as a cowpoke. The way he slid into the feed store and transformed into a farmer-dude was funny. I was surprised that Cam hated Henifer and didn't enjoy that side of him. The writers obviously did that so they could write in a deception between the two.

But disliking any part of farm life doesn't fit in with Cam's personality.

Just because he's city-fied doesn't mean he has to start disliking farm life. Does it?

Does that mean he's not farm-strong anymore like Pameron always said?

Yes, I get it, they were giving Mitch and Cam a common ground. I'm still not impressed with how they got there.

Despite my annoyance with Mitch and Cam skipping down lying road again, I did enjoy this episode.

There were some laughing moments, warm moments and a surprise pregnancy. Overall, it was one of the better episodes in recent memory.

I'm curious to see how Haley's pregnancy will affect the family. It will give the show another line to follow, and it might be interesting. We'll see.

Related: Modern Family Season 10 Episode 5 Review: Good Grief

I wonder if they'll name the baby after DeDe.

Did Cam make a grave mistake?

That's what he seemed to think on Modern Family Season 10 Episode 7 when he forgot the words to his favorite country song and went on the offensive, blaming Mitch for taking him away from his country roots.

Meanwhile, Alex found herself gearing up for a prestigious government job, but she worried that the family interview would ruin everything.

Also, Haley and Dylan wondered whether them growing up a little would help their relationship.

Modern Family Season 10 Episode 8 Review: Kids These Days

On Modern Family Season 10 Episode 8, sex is the subject matter, as is political correctness.

It might've been funny if it weren't so sadly true.

Usually, I'm okay with comedies taking real life and weaving it in such a way where it's funny. Where else are they going to get their material?

Haley Talking to Her Boss - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 8

But this wasn't one of those times.

The political correctness was almost to the point of nausea, and I didn't think any of it was funny. Well, except for Jay's line in the locker room.

I've admired you for a long time and if I haven't let you know that, that's on me. And I'm cissy-gendered enough to admit it.

Jay

And Gil is gay? What was the point of that revelation, exactly?

We already know Gil's a jerk, straight, gay or in-between.

The show is reaching, and we're all feeling the strain.

Even Phil fell flat and that never happens.

Alex Shopping - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 8

Moving over to the whole Alex, Gloria, Claire shopping scene -- what was all the fuss about?

Yes, Gloria is more obvious about her curves and sexuality, but Claire's no stranger to that side of herself.

She and Phil have played many role-playing games where they highlighted Claire's sexuality. Why are they trying to paint her as a closed up prude?

Phil: Do or do not, there is no try.
Mitch: Please don't Yoda me.

Claire dresses more conservatively on a daily basis, and maybe Alex didn't feel comfortable talking to her about sex, but there was no point in hiding their shopping.

She wouldn't mind if Alex went shopping with Gloria, so making it a big deal was just a feeble attempt at a funny scenario that didn't work.

I'm not saying there weren't any funny lines. There were. The funniest of them came from Jay's line mentioned above and Principal Brown's at the very end, but most of the episode was dull.

Haley's Future - Modern Family

Mitch and Phil share a love of sci-fi that would've been better to highlight than finding Gil in a gay bar.

Seeing them geek out at the sight of George Lucas would've been funny. Or some slapstick with Phil knocking over a line of Stormtroopers would've been funny too.

Related: Modern Family Season 10 Episode 7 Review: Did the Chicken Cross the Road?

But no, we got some pictures at the end and didn't even get to see them at the event.

I'm totally gay.

Gil

Now Cam, when he was first yelling at the boys and calling them little girls? I admit it took me back a bit. Cam's usually stereotypically manly when he coaches, we all know that, but he doesn't insult.

His voice deepens, and his mannerisms change, but he's still Cam.

Being aggressively insulting is just not who Cam is.

So, once again, they exaggerated a character's characteristic to the extreme, so they could exploit it and make a storyline.

Claire, Gloria and Alex - Modern Family

We KNOW these characters. Don't stretch them out from who they are.

The only real thread running through this episode was Haley trying to deal with the fact that she's pregnant.

Of course, Dylan is all excited and, as predicted, they're painting the Haley/Dylan couple as the younger Phil/Claire couple.

Let's see those little bastards complain about that. Oh!

Principal Brown

That isn't surprising seeing the similarities between the two couples.

They both started with a sweet innocent type of love that's simple. They both got pregnant at a young age, and Dylan is stepping up just like Phil.

Haley's fear and struggle as she carried the secret around was the only solid part of this episode.

I'm surprised she shooed off Dylan's proposal so quickly, but he can do better than that, and I'm sure he will.

His real proposal will be sweet and heartfelt, with a little bit of dumb mixed in because this is Dylan we're talking about here. But his love for Haley is pure. I think he'll propose in a public way and it'll be kinda huge.

I was a big Andy fan, and I'm disappointed it didn't work out between him and Haley, but I didn't dislike Dylan for her.

And for the love of cheese, please do not bring Andy back now.

If he was going to come back, it should've been pre-Dylan and post-Arvin. Now it's too late, and Haley's had enough love complications, so leave it alone.

I'd like to see more with Alex and her fireman. Let's get to know him and them a little more. Haley's love life has been done to death, and it's time to move on to a different Dunphy.

Let's give Alex a turn. Maybe that's what they're gearing up to with all the sexy shopping. We can only hope.

Modern Family Season 10 Episode 9 Review: Putting Down Roots

On Modern Family Season 10 Episode 9, DeDe's widower, Jerry, brings the last of her belongings to her family.

I'm glad they didn't just forget about DeDe and let her death hang.

It was confusing, though, why Jay was so eager to get rid of him. Jealous?

Jerry's a nice enough guy, and Jay got along with DeDe just fine, so why would he have such a problem with helping Jerry out through this tough time?

Jerry Comes to Visit - Modern Family

I suppose they were bootlegging on the storyline of Jay turning off the hot water to freeze Gloria's family out.

Let's get real. If Gloria says one cousin is going to stay for a night, that's what it should be. Granted, Jay could bring up the issue to Gloria and address the problem straight-on, but thinking more about it, he really couldn't.

She's so damn hot-headed, she would've ripped his head off.

Hey, what was all that squeaking in the garage? Are the raccoons back? Damn it!

Haley

What happened to the Gloria who adored her husband? Now it just seems like she wants to irritate and intimidate.

Not that she hasn't been intimidating before -- she has -- but Jay doesn't usually back down from her.

Mitch Trying to Garden - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 9

Remember when they first got Stella and she was chewing Gloria's shoes? She was flipping out about that, but Jay wasn't swayed.

Now he's avoiding and using backdoor tactics to rid the house of her family.

It sounds like a massive downturn in their relationship.

I'm so stressed. I wish it was the '50s when it was healthy to drink and smoke when you're pregnant.

Haley

On the bright side, Mitch and Cam weren't annoying in this episode.

Mitch made a promise to Cam that he never should've made. He'll never be happy on a farm. Asking Mitch and Lily to leave everything and everyone they know to move to a farm in Missouri is unreasonable.

That promise was a long time ago, and before you say a promise is a promise, lives change.

Ed and Ed - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 9

The promise to move to Missouri was probably made very early in their relationship before they even started building a life.

Now they've built a full life right where they are. Not that they have to stay in the same house for the rest of their days, but it would make more sense tor them to agree to spend time in Missouri first.

You can never go home again isn't just a saying, and once Cam gets back on the farm in Missouri, it might not be all he remembers.

Don't break Alex, she's our safety net.

Luke

People tend to remember things not as they were but through a rose-tinted lens.

And Cam's city-fied now. As Pameron says, he's not farm strong anymore.

I don't know if I believe that or not, and watching Mitch enjoy pretending to be a cowboy on Modern Family Season 10 Episode 7, they might be just fine on the farm.

Mitch and Cam Garden - Modern Family

All I'm saying is they should try before they uproot and move so far away.

On another note, I'm glad Haley at least told somebody she's pregnant, and if Claire's story about how understanding her mom was upon finding her used condom wrapper was any foreshadowing of the future, I think she will handle Haley's announcement just fine.

Related: Modern Family Season 10 Episode 8 Review: Kids These Days

Claire's always come through with understanding when it comes to her kids.

I think she and Phil will fully support Haley and Dylan with this baby. In fact, I'm sure the whole family will rally around her, just like Alex and Luke did.

Well, there it is. I'm just glad E.T. didn't land at your house.

Cam

Even though I can't imagine Mitch and Cam leaving for Missouri, DeDe does belong at the Dunphy house. Their family is deep-rooted, and if anybody's going to stay put for generations, it's going to be them.

I imagine that's why it all played out the way it did.

Maybe the writers are leading up to the end of the show, so let's theorize.

Even though I said they shouldn't just uproot and move to Missouri, I think Mitch, Cam, Cal, and Lily will. They're the least rooted of all the families.

The Dunphy's will stay put. Haley and Dylan will get married, and Haley will have their baby. They might live with Phil and Claire for a time until they get on their feet. Once they move, they'll have another child, and become a Phil/Claire family microcosm.

We'll find out Luke's gay.

Alex and her fireman boyfriend will start coming around more, and we'll get to see their relationship progress as she gets her career underway.

I have no predictions for Jay and Gloria because I think they're so off, it's hard for me to imagine their future.

Given how I usually rant about Mitch and Cam, you'd think I couldn't see a future for them, but oddly I do.

I think part of Jay regrets the breakup of his and DeDe's family, and although he loves Gloria, he's never accepted her family as his own (exluding Manny.) That will be their downfall, if anything.

What do you think Modern Family fanatics? Do you think the Tucker-Pritchetts will move to Missouri? Do you see a future for Jay and Gloria? Did you enjoy the appearance of Ed Begley Jr.?

Modern Family Season 10 Episode 10 Review: Stuck in a Moment

On Modern Family Season 10 Episode 10, the Dunphys and the Pritchetts sent us off for winter break with a laugh.

That was one of the better episodes of late, and it was a welcome change from nearly the entire season.

Haley and Dylan vert - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 10

We followed Dylan and Haley as they tried to figure out the perfect time to tell Phil and Claire about the baby. When they finally did, it seemed like Phil took it harder than Claire.

That was a shock.

Phil's so Phil; I would've thought he would've been super excited, especially because he's always been a huge Dylan fan.

He's not one of those over-protective father types who stomps around telling all the guys to stay away from their daughters.

We have an announcement. Dylan and I are having a baby.

Haley

Although his reaction in the news was probably typical of a father finding out that his unwed daughter was pregnant, it wasn't what I would expect from Phil.

They were supportive, though, so that's what matters.

Related: Enjoy UNLIMITED access to thousands of Movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video. WATCH ANYWHERE. CANCEL ANYTIME!

There was no doubt in my mind that they would be anything but supportive. Even though it was understandable that Haley was nervous, she should've known her family would rally around her. That's what good families do.

Christmas in the Kitchen - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 10

It kind of makes you wonder about Dylan's family. They were all worried about telling the Dunphy's, but what about Dylan's?

I wonder if the show goes on for more seasons if they will introduce his family to the audience.

The funniest part of this episode reminded me of older Modern Family episodes that were always spot on with the effortless comedy. When Claire was in the Santa suit, lugging the presents up the sidewalk with the green Christmas lights hitting her face just right, Dylan's line fit perfectly about the Grinch.

Even Uncle Cam's? You have to save those for seven years, like tax returns.

Luke

That's the kind of comedy that's been missing from the storylines. We don't need the snark or the deceit or any of that. That's not what made this show great.

What made the show great and kept it running for this long was their ability to make us laugh with smart, perfectly timed jokes that appear to take no effort at all. Theirs has always been a natural comedy that flows, and they've been losing that slowly, but surely.

Haley, Dylan, and Alex - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 10

Aside from the deceit between Jay and Gloria, I couldn't find one thing in this episode annoying -- and that's saying something.

Mitch and Cam weren't in their typical scenario of hiding things from each other, which was a relief. Their storyline wasn't notable and not that funny, but at least they weren't doing what they normally do to each other.

Related: Modern Family Season 10 Episode 9 Review: Putting Down Roots

Jay and Gloria took that role this time.

That isn't the first time Jay hid something from Gloria in the name of vanity. Remember the botox incident? It's got to be tough being that much older than your spouse, and you can't blame Jay for feeling insecure now and again.

Ya' know what? As a former mall Santa, I vow to never comment on a sitting Santa, but you're a disgrace to the red and white.

Cam

The only thing funny about their storyline was the fact that Jay uses cream usually used on rhinos and elephants.

Another effortless moment was after Haley told everyone she was pregnant, and Dylan fell out of the fireplace timed perfectly with Mitch wondering what a baby Dylan popping out of Haley would look like.

We need more of those moments.

One more thing I loved about this episode was there was a Phil/Claire awww moment when he set up the tree and saved his wife from embarrassment.

Cam Discovers His Card - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 10

Phil and Claire really love each other, and it's nice when the writers showcase their affection toward each other. It gives you hope and a sense of love and family, and that there is happily ever after out there somewhere.

Related: Get Great Selection of New & Classic Movies with the Lifetime Movie Club via Prime Video Channels!

Sometimes it's muddled up in life's happenings or kids, but their love bubbles up underneath and shows a warm glow that just makes you feel good.

I took a swing at a new way to cook a turkey.

Claire

I hope Modern Family comes back with more episodes like these because the show needs them if they want to keep going.

21 TV Series That Should Have Called It Quits!

There is such thing as too much of a good thing.

Even some of our favorite and most beloved series have to come to an end at some point. Unfortunately, some of them have overstayed their welcome.

Between ludicrous plot points, recycled storylines, controversial cast changes, or dwindling quality and humor, some of these series clinging on for dear life should have considered calling it quits.

Related: Get True Crime Files by ID via Prime Video Channels for Over 1,000 Real-life Mystery & Suspense Shows!

Scroll through the gallery and check out our list of television series that we feel should have pulled the plug, like, yesterday.

Which series do you think need to give it up?! Share your thoughts in the comments!

1. Lethal Weapon

Alarming news lethal weapon
The neverending behind the scenes drama was and still is exhausting. It was some of the worst in years, and it's laughable that whoever thought this series could remain successful after firing Crawford. When you think about the Lethal Weapon franchise, the first person that comes to mind is Riggs, so how the hell did anyone think this series could survive without its most popular main character? Also, killing him off was tacky AF!

2. The Walking Dead

Foreman rick the walking dead s9e2
The Walking Dead should've been put out of its misery like four seasons ago. They let it go on, but it's all been downhill ever since. They're hemorrhaging viewers almost every other episode, and two of their leads just left. What is The Walking Dead without Rick Grimes?

3. Grey's Anatomy

Reaching out greys anatomy
This show is like a drug that's impossible to give up on, which is why it needs to put all of us out of our misery by ending already. It has been on FOREVER. If they don't end it soon, we'll be watching Meredith's daughter start HER first day as an intern at that godforsaken hospital.

4. Riverdale

Journey to the past riverdale s3e4
Riverdale has a habit of dragging out its storylines. The Black Hood plot was dragged on way too long. And while the show is known for being positively ludicrous pretty much all of the time, the Gargoyle King and floating babies have tipped the show too far over the edge.

5. Law & Order: SVU

An accidental injury law and order svu s20e2
Mariska Hargitay is a gift, and Olivia Benson is one of the most iconic characters in television history. L & O: SVU has surpassed mere entertainment by being at the forefront of entire movements and has educated the masses and shaped society's understanding of sex crimes for TWO DECADES! There are only so many "ripped from the headlines" cases a person can take. Let Olivia retire!

6. 13 Reasons Why

Clay with a tape 13 reasons why
Ideally, 13 Reasons Why should have been a limited series that ended with its excellent first season. Unfortunately, half of the second season was filler episodes showing that the series was clinging on for dear life. If the third season is another 13 episodes, that's 26 episodes more than the series needed.
