ABC's Modern Family is currently airing its penultimate season.

How will Modern Family Season 10 conclude and set up the show's last-ever season?

The Alphabet network has dropped the first details about Modern Family Season 10 Episode 22, and it sounds like a different direction for the hit comedy series.

Photo Shoot with Phil and Gloria - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 13

Titled "A Year of Birthdays," the installment will take viewers on a trip down memory lane to find out how the family members celebrated their birthdays.

Here's the press release from ABC:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY? ABC’S ‘MODERN FAMILY’ SEASON FINALE AIRS WEDNESDAY, MAY 8

“A Year of Birthdays” – As the birth of Haley and Dylan’s twins approaches, we take a look back at how each family member celebrated their birthdays this past year on the season finale of “Modern Family,” WEDNESDAY, MAY 8 (9:00-9:31 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand.

Dream House - Modern Family

“Modern Family” stars Ed O’Neill as Jay Pritchett, Julie Bowen as Claire Dunphy, Ty Burrell as Phil Dunphy, Sofia Vergara as Gloria Pritchett, Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Mitchell Pritchett, Eric Stonestreet as Cameron Tucker, Sarah Hyland as Haley Dunphy, Nolan Gould as Luke Dunphy, Ariel Winter as Alex Dunphy, Rico Rodriguez as Manny Delgado, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons as Lily Tucker-Pritchett and Jeremy Maguire as Joe Pritchett.

Guest starring is Reid Ewing as Dylan, Chazz Palminteri as Shorty, Hillary Anne Matthews as Sherry and Matthew Risch as Jotham.

“A Year of Birthdays” was written and directed by Steve Levitan.

Phil and Claire - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 12

It certainly sounds like the twins will be arriving during the season finale, so that will surely give long-time viewers some great scenes.

As for the birthdays, there are a lot of family members, so it would make sense to tell this story over the course of an entire season.

We kid, mostly.

ABC renewed Modern Family earlier this year for an eleventh and final season, despite reports that the current tenth season would be the end of the line for the popular series.

There's no definite episode count at this moment in time, but given that the show is ABC's third highest-rated scripted series in the demo, it makes sense to keep it around for a little while longer.

Dylan - Modern Family Season 10 Episode 12

Before the season finale, we have Modern Family Season 10 Episode 21.

"Cam is finally getting a chance to shine when he is asked to preside over the high school graduation ceremony at the last minute, while Jay gives the commencement address," reads the official logline.

"Meanwhile, Claire runs into her former high school rival who brings out the worst in her."

That episode airs Wednesday, May 1.

17 TV Characters Who Matured For the Better

Whether it's a comedy or drama, without a positive character development TV shows can feel bland and boring. It can take seasons or episodes for a character to develop and mature.

Most often these changes are prompted by love, life-changing events, or even age. These elements are what humanizes characters and make them all the more relatable.

Related: 13 Gay, Female TV Characters That Are Great Role Models

The growth of these characters is pertinent to us feeling more attached and ultimately more invested in the show. Continue on and learn which characters we found contained the strongest developments. Don't forget to comment below any of your thoughts!

1. Eddie Saville - A Million Little Things

Eddie saville a million little things
A Million Things is only one season in and the characters have already done their fair share of developing! In the beginning, Eddie was stuck in an unhappy marriage and cheating with his best friend's wife. By the end of the season, he's learned that sometimes the best thing to do is walk away. He figures out that communication is key and he understands the mistakes he made and the sacrifices Katherine gave for their family.

2. Axl Heck - The Middle

Axl heck the middle
Originally Axl is portrayed as a lazy, ungrateful son who holds zero potential. His parents are excited if he simply leaves the house dressed properly. After his trip abroad he comes back a changed man who is ready to find his own job and life beyond the comfort of his doting parents.

3. Sutton Brady - The Bold Type

Sutton brady the bold type
Gone are the days of Sutton's coffee fetching, phone answering, and paperwork filing. After her friends are successfully moving up the career chain, she begins questioning her potential. She finally chases after her dreams in fashion and becomes a force to be reckoned with. She no longer allows herself to be hidden away by her boyfriend and instead fights for the respect she deserves.

4. Eddie Huang - Fresh Off the Boat

Eddie huang fresh off the boat
Eddie started the show as a little boy, focused only on himself and his cool factor. Years later, a few inches taller, and voice a few octaves lower he's finding his way in the world beyond the label of Asian-American. He begins realizing the impact he could have on his life and those around him, and that his mother's seemingly strict mannerisms are rooted in love.

5. Mark Sloan - Grey's Anatomy

Mark sloan greys anatomy
Mark Sloan, a true silver fox, who was once known as the paramour who slept with Derek's wife. By the time of his tragic and sad death on the show, he had gained the respect of the fandom and this turnaround in character made his loss so much harder. I only wish he had realized his love for Lexi much sooner because his love for her made him change for the better.

6. Haley Dunphy - Modern Family

Haley dunphy modern family
Haley was always the airheaded daughter with zero prospects. She was always seen fighting with her brother and sister, but after 10 seasons she has finally grown into an adult. Although she will always be seen by her parents as their little girl, she will finally be something more than that making them proud as she takes on motherhood.

That energy you had just five minutes ago? Gone.

Dating out of someone's league usually has something to do with looks, career, or money, but here we add other things like personality and demeanor.

Not all television romances are created equal.

Here are 13 characters who we think dated out of their league.

Do you agree? Share your thoughts in the comments!

1. Beckett - Castle

Beckett castle
Beckett scored big when she snagged Castle. She was beautiful and smart, but he was rich, charming, and hot. It's not that we didn't love them together, we did, but her life climbed up a few notches when Beckett got together with Castle.

2. Aram - The Blacklist

Aram the blacklist
This was a couple we were all rooting for, but in the end, Samar proved too much for Aram. He inadvertently put her life at risk not because he was reckless but because he just wasn't up to her level. She loved him but had to protect herself which meant this love story had to end.

3. Dr. Brennan - Bones

Dr brennan bones
Brennan is annoying. Booth is hot. Yes, it's the very basest idea of dating out of your league, but he's way above her in every department.

4. Ray - Everybody Loves Raymond

Ray everybody loves raymond
There is so much wrong with Ray that we can't understand how he ended up with Debra. She's smart, stable, and focused. He's nothing but a man-child who contributes nothing to their marriage. He may be funny, but Debra could have done better.

5. Nancy - Stranger Things

Jonathan stranger things
Yes, we said it. Jonathan is out of NANCY'S league -- not the other way around as you'd expect. Why? Because she's a faker, and he's not. Although she might have come to terms with her true self, it doesn't mean she deserves him despite how many fans love to see this couple together.

6. Xander - Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Cordelia buffy the vampire slayer
Xander hit the lottery when he started dating Cordelia. It's not that he isn't a nice guy deserving of love, but Cordelia is way out of his league. It's fairly simple. She's a rich bitch, and he's too nice and nerdy. Enough said.

As Mrs. S said, Sarah took all of the attitude and none of the politics from the punk rock scene.

More than just a cute face or an emotional place-holder, television children often lead the way with straightforward wisdom and precocious problem-solving.

All too often, they've been forced to shoulder responsibilities far too early.

Sometimes, circumstances are just right for their talents to shine.

And then there are times when they really are the smartest person in the room.

So whether they're actually the Devil or just a little dickens, off-the-scales clever or an annoying know-it-all, these kids hold their own in strange and challenging circumstances.

1. Trixie Espinoza -- Lucifer

Trixie espinoza lucifer
In the beginning... there was Trixie. And it was Good. Better than good, Trixie's super-power is being able to connect with everyone. After all, her bestie is Mazikeen, head torture demon of Hell. Furthermore, there's a solid chance (at least in my mind) that she'll grow up to be a time-traveling Ella.

2. Ty Finn -- The Orville

Ty finn the orville
Ty is a musical prodigy but otherwise, he's a pretty typical, if inordinately adorable, space-traveling kid. It's kind of perfect that his piano instructor is Isaac, a Kaylon A.I. being. Besides being far more musically skilled than any human counterpart aboard The Orville, Isaac develops whatever passes for affection in a Kaylon for Ty and his mother and that ends up saving the Planetary Union when the Kaylons attack.

3. Diane Johnson -- black-ish

Diane johnson black ish
Diane's never been subtle about how smart she is but as she's entered adolescence, she's learned to hone to talents to further her own goals. What that looks like is the birth of a super-villain. Just ask Charlie how scary she can be.

4. Max Fuller -- Fuller House

Max fuller fuller house
Very much the middle child, "Mighty" Max adores his older brother but isn't above pulling Jackson's strings when circumstances give Max the upper-hand. Bright but insecure, he thrives in the bustling household, filled with lots of family and friends who have his back.

5. Gracie Sheffield -- The Nanny

Gracie sheffield the nanny
Written to be little more than the cute-enough-to-give-you-cavities Cindy Brady of the Sheffield clan, Gracie often advised Nanny Fran on personal dilemmas with a more worldly perspective than you'd expect.

19 Ladies Leading the Diversity Charge on TV

Women are already discriminated against enough as a gender, but when it comes to putting a woman of color in any role, let alone a lead role, there's still a large disparity.

While this disparity is one that certainly takes leaps and bounds to recover, the hope is to eventually make it the norm to have a woman of color cast as a lead or win an award. No need for landmark events of these happenings.

We welcome comments below, and any additional women you think have aided in diversifying the status quo and the scene of the entertainment business.

1. Sandra Oh - Killing Eve

Sandra oh killing eve
Sandra Oh alongside Jodie Comer carries Killing Eve to incredible heights. Not only does it cast two female leads in place of a traditionally male-dominated genre, but it places a woman of color, specifically Asian, in that leading position. Oh has paved the way for many Asians in Hollywood. Notably, being the first Asian woman to not only be nominated for an Emmy as a lead actress but also the first to host the Golden Globes.

2. Aisha Dee - The Bold Type

Aisha dee the bold type
Aisha Dee plays Kat Edison on The Bold Type, a TV show that highlights progressiveness in our current worldly climate, particularly for women, as most of the leading characters are strong women making their way in a hard city and a hard industry. Aisha sheds light on biracial representation, one that's often overlooked and goes undiscussed.

3. Justina Machado - One Day At A Time

Justina machado one day at a time
Justina Machado the lead of One Day At A Time celebrates that diversity goes beyond black and white, and there's so much more in between. Playing a Latina mother from Cuba she feels it's a duty of hers, while also an honor, to lead the charge in correct Latino representation on television.

4. Letitia Wright - Black Mirror

Letitia wright black mirror
Letitia Wright earned an Emmy nomination for her lead portrayal in Black Museum on Black Mirror. An episode that has caused some disturbance with many people in trying to understand the truth behind the episode. Some believe it to be a commentary on the prison system. Wright's journey from Guyana to making a name for herself in Hollywood, most notably in Black Panther is a journey that she feels empowered by and only hopes inspire the creation of many other TV shows and movies reminiscent of each.

5. Gina Rodriguez - Jane the Virgin

Gina rodriguez jane the virgin
Gina Rodrguez is a huge advocate in Latino representation. Her lead role as Jane in Jane the Virgin and a few other lead roles in movies empowers her to aid others in understanding that even within the Latino community there's a huge amount of important diversity; differing skin tones, religious beliefs, and perspectives. She wants Latinos to be able to watch entertainment and feel seen and heard.

6. Jameela Jamil - The Good Place

Jameela jamil the good place
Jameela Jamil's role in The Good Place as Tahanhi Al Jamil gives way to South Asian representation, especially the "token diversity," which allows writers to only write Asians in stereotypical terms or as minor/supporting roles. Jamil largely uses her platform to speak not only to racial challenges in Hollywood, but additionally about body image issues and the role it plays on the public.

Labor is painful on its own, but add in extra drama and unique circumstances and it becomes almost unbearable.

Television doesn't like to let their characters off easy, and even though giving birth isn't easy to begin with, it can never go down without a major hitch.

Related: 19 Characters Who Had Too Many Love Interests

We created a slideshow below of 17 times labor went above and beyond the pain.

1. Amy Gives Birth Next to a Dead Body - Superstore

Rachels labor never ends friends
This entire scenario may have been comedic, but it was hard not to feel bad for Rachel at the end of the day. Multiple mothers were rolled in and out of the shared hospital room to give birth, while Rachel spent the entire time in continuous suffering.

3. Petra Gives Birth to Twins Without an Epidural - Jane the Virgin

19 Characters with Jobs that Drive Them Crazy

Let's face it, the lives of TV characters always look more exciting and fun than ours -- especially their work lives. They're having cool adventures, pulling off awesome pranks, or succeeding in following their passions. None that ever seems to happen in real life.

We get so attracted to and envious of what we see onscreen, we tend to forget TV characters' jobs are not as glamorous as we think.

Many characters despise their jobs for pretty much the same reasons you hear out in the real world. The bosses won't listen; the assignments are impossible, and it's boring -- incredibly boring.

These characters certainly experienced their share of work-related frustrations. As they found out, it's not always easy to stay cool while your job is crushing your soul.

Rome - A Million Little Things

Rome shakes his head - A Million Little Things

Many factors contributed to Rome's depression. His job directing meaningless commercials was one of them.

Quitting his job didn't make his depression magically go away, but it was a step to in the right direction to admitting he could not continue going through life pretending everything was fine.

Michelle - Bunheads

Michelle has a confession - Bunheads

Michelle's a triple threat. She sings, acts, and dances. Unfortunately, casting directors are always passing her over.

Tired of rejection, she impulsively accepted a marriage proposal from Hubbel, one of the rare people who could see how special Michelle is, and he took her away from Vegas to Paradise.

It was there she found her calling as a dance teacher to an upcoming generation of Bunheads.

Stamets - Star Trek: Discovery

Out of control Stamets - Star Trek: Discovery

Stamets loves his research but hated seeing it appropriated for the war effort. Then, to save Discovery, he merged with the spore drive.

It nearly killed him, and the effect it had on his mind wasn't pretty.  He was able to recover, but once he did, he discovered that his husband had been murdered.

Stamets was able to find a way to bring Dr. Culber back, but that's a completely different story.

Diane - Cheers

Diane answers the phone

The last job intellectually-minded Diane would want is cocktail waitressing at a place like Cheers, and her highbrow airs did not exactly endear her to Carla and the regulars.

Not content with wasting her life away in a pub, she continued to pursue her literary ambitions, despite the many rejections she had to endure. Close to the date of her wedding with Sam, she received the news a publisher loved one of her unfinished manuscripts and wanted to publish it.

It wasn't quite a happy ending to a long journey for Diane. The price of fulfilling her dream was her relationship with Sam.

Tyrion - Game of Thrones

Tyrion resigns - Game of Thrones

Tyrion wanted Dany to be a wise and just monarch worthy of ruling Westeros.

Seeing Dany mercilessly rain fire down upon Kings Landing and his siblings' corpses' made him realize he couldn't take being Hand of the Dragon Queen anymore.

It wasn't only Dany's shortcomings that made him miserable but his Tyrion's failures at governance as well. The last thing Tyrion wanted was to continue being part of Westeros' ruling body, but Bran wouldn't have it any other way.

Robin - How I Met Your Mother

Robin at work - How I Met Your Mother

Most of what we saw of Robin's work life was pretty embarrassing.  She was forced to cover dumb, fluff stories. She starred in an adult diaper commercial that ran for years. Coworkers made of fun of her. There was also the time she slipped on horse poop while on the air.

At least we know she eventually became mega-successful. She became a highly sought after journalist -- traveling the world and finally delivering news stories she wanted to cover.

Too bad her love life would never reach those same highs.

41 TV Couples With Absolutely No Chemistry

Luke - Gilmore Girls

Luke attends a town meeting - Gilmore Girls

Wonder why Luke's always grumpy?

If his customers aren't pestering him for the wi-fi password, they're flaunting his rules or coming up with overly complicated food orders. Plus there's the hassle of dealing with Taylor.

However, a lot of Luke's bluster is a facade. He likes running a diner and has a soft spot for the quirky townspeople who are his customers. Don't ask about the wi-fi because it really does annoy him.

Arthie - GLOW

Arthie is over it - GLOW

Arthie knew her character Beirut the Mad Bomber was going to be seen as a villain, but she wasn't expecting beer cans to be thrown at her face.

Ever since the taping of the pilot, she has been desperately searching for another wrestling persona.

She tried to give herself a dramatic makeover into a heroic character, but Dawn and Stacy stole the idea right from under her.

Kevin - This Is Us

Kevin shows off - This Is Us

After his hopes of a football career died, Kevin found his way into acting. It turned out he was good and landed a starring role in a sitcom -- a terrible sitcom.

After being demeaned one too many times, Kevin snapped and quit his job in a way that should have blacklisted him from any other acting gigs.

Instead, leaving The Manny was the best thing he could have done for his career. If Kevin hadn't left, Ron Howard would have never offered him the chance to co-star with Slyvester Stallone in a big-budget prestige film.

Linda - Better Off Ted

Linda needs wine - Better Off Ted

Considering the unethical business practices, the nightmarish bureaucracy, and the high likelihood the lab guys will accidentally turn you into a mutant, Linda's not wrong to be upset that she works for Veridian Dynamics.

Though she often tries to take a stand, she finds herself getting caught in the crossfire and joining Medieval Fight Club to work out the stress.

Her efforts to make Veridian haven't been completely in vain. She did get the company to create a roof garden.

27 Characters Who Have a Secret and Can Keep It

Mitchell - Modern Family

Mitchel, Attorney at Law - Modern Family

Mitchell likes being a lawyer well enough but finding the right area of law to practice was more of a challenge than he anticipated

He tried environmental and criminal law. He experienced both the large firm and non-profit way of doing things. He took up scrapbooking when he was unemployed.

Ultimately, he reached this conclusion: stop working for others and start your own law firm.

Klinger - M*A*S*H

Klinger takes flight

Klinger is a hardworking corporal who always puts the wounded first. The problem is he hates being in a warzone and witnessing all the deaths war causes, which is why he will do anything to get out.

He'll dress like Scarlett O'Hara, eat a Jeep, and hang glide his way to freedom.

None of his schemes ever worked, and, to the surprise of everyone, Klinger stayed in Korea after everyone else went home.

Chloe - Lucifer

When Chloe met Lucifer, she was on the outs with most of her co-workers.

After she partnered up with Lucifer, the relationships with her colleagues improved, but then she was stuck putting up with Lucifer's eccentricities and impulsiveness.

Despite his eccentricities, self-centeredness, and unreliableness, which often gets in the way of solving murders, Chloe wasn't entirely impervious to Lucifer's charms. She fell for the Devil.

Ted - Scrubs

No ketchup for Ted - Scrubs

Ted is mostly inept as a lawyer. He never gets any respect. Worst of all, Dr. Kelso uses him as a personal punching bag.

Eve - Killing Eve

Eve in denial - Killing Eve

Even though she worked for British Intelligence, Eve was wasting away as she was always to desk duty.

She got her opportunity for a more exciting job when assigned to track drown Villanelle. Now anything related to Villanelle comes with a lot of grief, and the assignment is creating havoc in Eve's personal and professional life.

It doesn't get much more desperate than being shot at and left for dead, which is how where we left Eve. Perhaps she's rethinking the decision to leave behind the paperwork for fieldwork. Probably not but we won't find out until the next season airs.

The Secret Benefits of Binge Watching TV

Like many other technological advancements and media platforms throughout history, people have been skeptical of the television since its introduction to modern society.

Newspaper articles and infamous books like Amusing Ourselves to Death (1985) and Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television (1978) argued that television would lead to the eventual destruction of the world as we know it.

Forget war, global warming, or an apocalypse -- keep an eye on your evil television set!

Watching TV - The Sinner Season 2 Episode 1

Nevertheless, most of us have come to love and adore television programming.

In fact, according to a study by Neilson, the average American adult spends almost 42 hours a week watching video programming. That's practically a full-time job!

Related: Get HBO via Prime Video Channels for Addictive Dramas, Hilarious Comedies & Hit Movies!

We depend on television programming for current events, entertainment, education, sports, cultural exchange, political engagement, and even weather updates.

People who are perceived to watch too much television, however, notoriously get a bad rap. Watching too much television has been connected to obesity, greed, and perceived laziness.

If you're someone who loves to watch television as much as we do, you may have even been called a couch potato by your parents or grandparents, or told that watching television is rotting your brain -- ouch!

But if you're a full season behind on Grey's Anatomy, what other choice do you have but to binge?

Despite the never-ending critiques and accusations, there are benefits to watching lots of television! Studies have shown that watching television is good for us.

Summer has officially come to an end and cuffing season is on the horizon If you're looking to strengthen your love life, you may just need to find someone to #Netflixandchill with who enjoys the same types of television shows as you.

A survey by Xfinity shows that 66% of couples say that watching TV together has made their relationship stronger.

For millennial couples, that number increases to almost 75%.

Even more fascinating, about 43% of single adults have gone on a date based on a potential partner's TV preference.

If you're favorite TV shows aren't in your Tinder bio, you could be missing out on your OTP.

Sutton and Richard at the Scarlet Summit - The Bold Type Season 3 Episode 1

As if love isn't already enough of a motive to keep you binging, watching television can influence viewer's attitudes and beliefs about themselves, as well as about other people from other cultures and backgrounds.

Until the 1970's, the majority of television shows featured only white actors and actresses and cookie-cutter nuclear families laced with gender roles.

When characters of different backgrounds got introduced, they got relegated to playing stereotypical roles.

Black actors and actresses played servants and criminals, Native Americans were portrayed as savages, and women were rarely seen in positions of power.

Since then, there has been a massive increase in the number of television shows that feature people of all backgrounds and ethnicities.

Full House quiz

From This is Us and Modern Family to Black-ish and Charmed (2018), we've seen an increased number of programs that have made an effort to combat harmful stereotypes and reshape the ways we think about race and gender by telling more inclusive, authentic stories.

Television also can inspire creativity and artistry in all of us.

Channels like HGTV showcase content that gives viewers inspiration for new ways to decorate their homes. Marie Kondo taught us all how to find inner peace by decluttering our lives.

Shows like American Idol, America's Got Talent, and So You Think You Can Dance feature everyday people and encourage audiences to join the fun by showcasing their own gifts.

Pearson Family Dinner - This is Us Season 4 Episode 1

According to  psychologist Mihaly Csikzentmihalyi, "When are involved in creativity, we feel that we are living more fully than during the rest of life."

In addition to making us feel more alive, studies show that creativity also has healing and health benefits.

It can help us cope with emotional pain and have overwhelming liberating effects.

Hard at Work in Brady House

If you watch something on television that inspires you to finish that DIY backyard renovation, or take a dance class, go for it!

Similarly, watching television can be therapeutic.

It can help us cope with emotional trauma by allowing us to process through complex things in our lives through characters and plots that remind us of our own situations.

It can also provide comfort and validate our experiences by letting us know we are not alone.

For parents, watching television with their children can strengthen their bond, and can even help children learn better.

When parents watch educational programming with their children, children pay more attention to the content.

Talking about the content of the program with their children leads to an even greater increase in learning because it communicates to the child that the parent thinks the material is important.

Talking to the Children - The Whispers

Finally, watching television can make us feel good because it's a great source of entertainment!

Whether your guilty pleasure is watching television or collecting comic books, we should not feel bad about doing things that we enjoy.

In fact, doing things that you enjoy is a form of self-care that increases your positive emotions and decrease negative ones.

The next time someone makes you feel bad for watching too much television, invite them over to watch your favorite television show.

Allow them to consume content through your lens and experience the many benefits of binge-watching.

With some luck, you may even turn them into another TV Fanatic.

We're Not Ready to Say Goodbye to These Beloved Shows

Endings are always bittersweet, but that's especially true when it pertains to your favorite TV shows.

The saying "all goods things must come to an end" and "it's better to end while you're ahead" all ring true.

Nothing can last forever ... except maybe Grey's Anatomy.

The Tour - The Good Place Season 4 Episode 1

Rather than overstay its welcome, It's better if a show ends on a high note, able to fulfill all of the writer's wishes and deliver a satisfying finale to longtime fans.

Here are some of our beloved shows coming to an end in the 2019-20 TV season.

The Good Place

Planning Mode - The Good Place

The hysterical sitcom about a group of misfits navigating the afterlife pushed the limits when it first debuted in The Good Place Season 1, and since then, it's taken the audience on the ride of a lifetime.

Starring Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, the series has embarked on its fourth and final season.

And while there are still plenty of ethical lessons we can learn from ethics professor Chidi on how to be a good person, the writers defended their decision to cut things off at The Good Place Season 4 explaining that "it was always the plan."

Who was the architect of this decision?!

Will and Grace

From a Dead Man - Will & Grace

Like a cat with nine lives, Will and Grace got a second chance at life with a reboot that premiered in 2017 and spanned an additional three seasons.

The groundbreaking comedy took on a more progressive tone in its second iteration, which continued to follow the complicated and hilarious lives of Will, Grace, Karen, and Jack.

The 11th and final season will take a bow in 2020 following some major news: Grace is pregnant (and old!).

Her words, not mine.

Supernatural

The Monsters Arrive - Supernatural Season 14 Episode 20

Plenty of characters have cheated death (or died and come back to life) during Supernatural's extended run.

But when that final episode airs, death will have become permanent.

The 15th and final season will wrap up the storylines of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles).

Grieving - Supernatural Season 14 Episode 19

Supernatural Season 15 marks the end of the longest-running sci-fi/genre series in the history of American broadcast television.

Not to mention, the end of an era as Supernatural is the only currently running show born from CW's predecessors, The WB and UPN, after launching in 2005.

Expect to see a few familiar and beloved characters.

How to Get Away with Murder

Determined Annalise - How To Get Away With Murder Season 6 Episode 2

Shonda Rhimes' domination of ABC's Thursday nights is slowly coming to an end as How to Get Away with Murder Season 6 creeps up on us.

With Scandal already off the air, the only remaining Shondaland show is Grey's Anatomy (which has plenty of lifelines, don't worry.)

Head of the Class - How To Get Away With Murder Season 6 Episode 3

For multiple seasons, Annalise has been involved in the deaths of other, but the final season is coming for her as it kicked off with a flash-forward to her funeral.

The events leading up to her death will unfold in the show's usual manner, though, there's plenty of conspiracy theories floating around that she faked her death.

We wouldn't put it past her.

Arrow

Oliver and Diggle2 - Arrow Season 8 Episode 2

The Arrowverse will go on, but it won't be the same without Arrow, which entered its eighth and action-packed final season.

Despite Arrow Season 8 being a limited run installment with just 10 episodes, they're going to be larger than life.

Or, in their words, it's going to be "huge."

Stephen Amell admitted that he agreed to the limited run simply because Greg Berlanti had a "really good idea" for it.

The Affair

Making Progress - The Affair Season 5 Episode 6

Every affair has to come to an end, and for Showtime's series, that end comes during The Affair Season 5.

But don't expect the final season to venture from its melodramatic formula -- it will continue to offer differing perspectives on the same situation depending on which character's point of view you're buying into.

So, who do you believe?

Empire

Something Only She Can Solve - Empire Season 6 Episode 4

After being plagued by a real-life news scandal, Empire is leaving behind a rather tainted legacy.

Jussie Smollett's falsified claims that he was a victim of a racial and homophobic attack not only got his character quickly written off the show, but it also convinced the production company to pull the plug on the series altogether.

But will they be able to redeem themselves and save the empire before it's too late?

You'll have to watch the fifth and final season to find out!

Modern Family

Superbowl Party - Modern Family

We've watched this family go through the good and the bad times, we've seen the kids grow up, and now, we have to say goodbye as the Emmy-Award winning show embarks on its 11th and final season!

As with most families, it's not goodbye, it's a see you later.

Here's hoping Modern Family takes a cue from black-ish and offers up some spinoffs focused on the kiddos-turned-adults.

Madam Secretary

Meeting About a Crisis - Madam Secretary Season 6 Episode 3

Elizabeth McCord has made great strides as Secretary of State, but she's making even more as President of the United States.

It's all thanks to a time jump offered up by the sixth and final season of Madam Secretary.

Madam Secretary Season 6 Episode 3 Review: Killer Robots

It's a bold move to take such a leap in the final season, but finding out that this was the final season gave the writers the ability to play with the storyline in a way that would be most beneficial to fans.

Executive producer Barbara Hall said it felt like they were "launching a new series."

Criminal Minds

Wedding Portrait - Criminal Minds Season 14 Episode 15

Beloved crime procedural, Criminal Minds, is coming to an end after its 15th season.

The 10-episode run will air in a mid-season slot (sometime in 2020), which is a slight change for dedicated viewers.

And it's all leading to a much-anticipated showdown with The Chameleon.

Old heroes and villains are expected to return, as is Jane Lynch who plays Reid's mother schizophrenic mother, Diana.

Reid will also somehow have time for a new love interest. We're getting misty-eyed already.

Fuller House

A Tender Family Moment

Whatever happened to Fuller House staying on the air forever?

It almost feels like it was yesterday (it was Feb 2016) that Netflix gave early 90s babies the reboot of a lifetime as it brought together the whole cast of the iconic Full House (sans Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen who played baby Michelle) together under the San Francisco roof for yet another adventure.

By now, you've probably heard all about Aunt Becky's college admissions scandal, so it's unlikely Lori Laughlin will return Fuller House Season 5

Full House Promo Pic

However, everyone else will, and we can't wait to see them help out Stephanie become the mom she was always destined to be.

The series is currently in production with no air date released yet.

The 100

Gabriel and Octavia - The 100 Season 6 Episode 9

The 100 will end with a momentous and fitting 100th episode as it wraps up its seventh and final season run.

The series is the third CW show to say goodbye alongside Supernatural and Arrow.

The team behind the post-apocalyptic drama always wanted to end The 100 after the seventh season, so it'll likely wrap up every storyline succinctly and satisfyingly.

Lucifer

Back to Business - Lucifer

After a surprising resurrection by Netflix, Lucifer is on its way to hell.

It's unclear when the fifth and final season will air, but it's looking like a 2020 release date.

Tom Ellis will return as the devilishly handsome Lucifer, and the word is that the plot will take us in an exciting and unexpected direction.

Lauren German is back as Detective Chloe Decker alongside Kevin Alejandra, DB Woodside and more!

Schitt's Creek

Mom of Schitt's Creek

Our time in the small and comedic town of Schitt's Creek is coming to an end, unfortunately.

And no, that's no joke.

Pop TV announced that the recently Emmy-nominated show would return for its sixth and final season on January 7, 2020!

The season will consist of 14 episodes, so get prepared to say goodbye to the bonkers TV family.

Blindspot

Secrets Unravel - Blindspot

The mysteries looming from Blindspot Season 4 won't go unsolved.

The action thriller has been gifted a second chance to wrap up storylines with a fifth and final season.

As we've learned, the answers are in Jane Doe's tattoos.

What shows are you going to miss?

Modern Family Season 11 Episode 5 Review: The Last Halloween

$

0

When an episode is titled "The Last Halloween," it begins to hit home that we're really coming to the end of the road with the various members of the Pritchett family.

Halloween has always been special on this long-running ABC hit, so high expectations set the tone for Modern Family Season 11 Episode 5.

Claire and Phil were up to their old tricks, but the surprise of the installment was that it almost got as melancholy as we feel knowing the end is near.

Scaring Claire - Modern Family

But before we get to the sweeter side of "The Last Halloween," it wouldn't have been a costumed holiday if Phil and Claire weren't trying to one-up each other.

Oh, who am I kidding? Is there any holiday that doesn't evoke their competitive sides?

The Rookie to Stage Another Castle Reunion This Season

The fun part about Halloween between this particular couple is how much Phil hates being scared. With a wife like Claire, it's a neverending horror movie for the poor guy because Claire is a master while he often finds himself lacking.

Oh How Sweet! - Modern Family Season 11 Episode 5

Claire: Oh, how cute. You tried to scare me for Halloween
Phil: How in the world did that not frighten you? Some of this is my actual blood! I knicked myself putting it on.
Claire: Sweetie, you don't know the first thing about scaring people. It's all about plausibility. And you were awfully casual for a guy that just got an ax in the chest. You know, if you really wanted to scare me, you should have waited until I opened the closet and found you hanging by a necktie.
Phil: Excuse me! I killed myself?!
Claire: Yeah, totally plausible. I mean, you've been so happy all these years, the other shoe is bound to drop, right?

But THIS Halloween was different, not that we knew that until the bitter end. But the writing should have been on the wall from the onset.

Phil and Claire have been happily married for a very long time. Just as Claire knows how to poke Phil's buttons, it would have been pretty unrealistic to suggest that going to traditional routes to scare Claire was going to work.

That he USED how well she thinks she knows him to beat her at her own game was perfect. And what worked on Claire worked on viewers, too.

Come on, even if we should have seen it coming, Phil is usually the last one to punk Claire, so his win was a shock.

Claire and Phil on Last Halloween - Modern Family

Even Phil was momentarily shocked out of his well-honed plan when Claire seemed to believe his impending suicide wouldn't be a surprise.

It worked very well to drive her in another direction, though. She felt victorious knowing that she was walking away unscathed once again.

The Conners Review: Nightmare on Lunch Box Street

Every step of the way, Phil lured his unsuspecting wife toward her best Halloween moment in years.

I was a little more susceptible to the plausibility of Phil losing again because of the Bless This Mess Halloween installment. Over there, Mike has as much of a fear fetish as Claire, and Rio's attempt to turn the tables on him resulted in both of them getting rabies.

The Lights Won't Go On! - Modern Family Season 11 Episode 5

But that's a new series. Modern Family characters are well established, and Phil spent an entire year preparing for Claire's big moment in the spotlight.

Using his business to set the stage in an unoccupied home was genius, and it's perfectly Phil to have wanted to succeed so badly that he got as into it as he did. The real shame is that he was having so much fun in the preparation, and Claire will never fully appreciate that.

After all, she's going to expect him to do better year in and year out, and even though Phil hates getting scared, he'll have to watch her like a hawk to avoid any jumpscares next Halloween.

It's kind of fun to imagine that this could be the holiday that finally sends them to divorce court. Can Phil possible follow up this ode to Pschyo? He'd have to have started last year!

Luke Is All Grown Up - Modern Family Season 11 Episode 5

It was hilarious that Alex and Luke both used the standby "I'm pregnant" joke to get the ball rolling. Phil immediately screamed NO while Claire was already thinking logically on the matter.

Janice is their age. If she were pregnant, it would have made the news. Hahaha! Yep, Claire was feeling far too superior on Halloween. Her scare didn't last long, but she got a big one nonetheless.

The Rookie, Stumptown Among Full Season Orders at ABC

The rest of the Luke/Alex stuff was sweet rather than interesting.

They were at each other's breakups to offer kind words about why they each deserved better than they just lost.

Lily the Cheerleader On and Off Halloween - Modern Family Season 11 Episode 5

The sweeter stories remained with Cam, Mitchell, and Lily.

Lily is finally old enough to spend Halloween on her own, and that meant Cam and Mitchell could go out and frolic with people half their age, but not quite as young as their daughter. Score!

The vigor with which the Pritchett family embraces life is really going to be missed. Cam, in particular, never lets a moment for embellishment go by, and his last-minute costume was terrific.

Cam: Mitchell? Judge... Judy!
Mitchell: Your talent. It's like you were touched by a Gayngel.

As much as getting older allows them to explore the life they had before Lily, there is nothing like connecting with their daughter to get them through the day.

Judging Fathers - Modern Family Season 11 Episode 5

Once they spotted her potentially frolicking with a kid who used deodorant at nine and beer on Lily's "Insta," they were all over tracking her down.

Oh my God! Can you adopt a second child to take some of this off me?

Lily

But it wasn't what they expected at all. Instead of Lily partying down, she was let down because a boy she liked didn't like her back.

We're Not Ready to Say Goodbye to These Beloved Shows

Sure, that's horrible for any parent to hear, but once she phrased it just right, it was the moment both men needed to share something from their heart with their girl. They have all suffered rejection from a boy they liked.

Mitch Got This! - Modern Family Season 11 Episode 5

So while it's sometimes nice to imagine going back to the way things were, the progress you've made in life is what hits the spot.

Jay, too, was walking down memory lane and inadvertently dragging Gloria with him as they both dealt with the realities of aging.

For Jay, it was the discovery of a beloved candy bar from his youth that he wanted to share with Joe. Once upon a time, Jay would have done anything to try to escape his children, but now he enjoys their time together, and Joe's decision to trick or treat with friends broke Jay's heart.

His quest for the candy bar isn't foreign to me. There are pieces of my youth that I've gone to the ends of the earth to duplicate, and wouldn't you know that chocolate is at the center of some of that, too?

The Long Lost Fudgy Duddy - Modern Family Season 11 Episode 5

Candy can be so magical and evoke such beautiful memories of a specific time that having it again sometimes seems like it will be a magical cure.

Manny: Perhaps this candy bar represents your lost innocence?
Jay: It represents delicious chocolate. Now, you're sure you gave it to a Spider-Man?

Manny wasn't dressed up as Sigmund Freud for nothing! That kid can rip right to the heart of those he loves, and he was at Jay's side when Jay finally realized how badly he wanted one of his kids to be with him.

The Secret Benefits of Binge Watching TV

But Manny's presence as an old dude did absolutely nothing for his mother. Gloria's Halloween nightmare is that people finally recognize her as Jay's wife.

Like Father, Like, Hey, Who Is That? - Modern Family Season 11 Episode 5

All Gloria wanted was to remain young. While she was whining about her fate, she didn't even bother to understand that Jay and his candy bar represented the same thing, in a way.

While he's not worried about his looks, he does want to touch that excitement he had for life when he was young, and passing it down to his youngest was his plan.

Gloria was clinging to anything and anybody who offered her solace. When she leaned right into being old with the old Boy Scout, I thought maybe she had lost her zest for life altogether.

Gloria: Manny! How many times have I told you not to call me mom when you're dressed like an old man!
Manny: Including now? Once.

All she needed was the acknowledgment of some like-minded individuals to perk her up again.

Gloria's naivete, while she danced happily, winning the Drag Queen contest, was the perfect cap to the night. Everyone got what they wanted, and we know that for years to come, they'll be there for each other on Halloween.

Unfortunately, they won't be there for us. We'll have to watch Modern Family online to play with this family on Halloween again. Can you even stand it??

What did you like best about "The Last Halloween?"

Are you ready to say goodbye after 11 seasons?
